I would like to comment on the battery life of the olympus 8010 outdoor camera. I leave my camera in my work truck for weeks on end, and depend on it at a moments notice, and after setting in the tuck for weeks durning temperture swings between single didgets and above freezing it still works for thoughs ten pictures at that moment I need.

Took great pictures at the beach underwater.

Did not like that i had to recharge it and download pictures while the camera was open.

I was looking a waterproof camera so i can take with me anywhere i go. I purchased this camera and had it for 2 weeks before it slipped out of my purse and did not notice. I was Very upset about it..I loved the camera!!! Looking forward to purchasing the camera again this week!! Ive looked at other cameras and reviews and always end up with making my mind on the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010...AWESOME camera!!! Cant wait to use it on our cruise!!

Not many, it lost all the points it gained with me when I got my 770. Taking field abuse so far so good. Zoom has increased but this is not really significantly better.

Problems:
-I cannot even turn this F'er on half the time, the button is so recessed you need a frig#$$ nail to start it up.
-I takes waaaaaay too long to become operational, usually my subject has long since moved by the time this thing "boots" up, baaaaad and annoying and I miss almost all of my shots.
-overall size has increased appreciably, before it fit nicely in any pocket, with credit cards. Now it is fatter, longer, wider, lost it's smooth fit and is bulky, might as well carry one with a proper zoom
-there is no longer the cool and slick, strong stainless lanyard available
-There is now only one access hatch for battery, card and plug....good for maintaining water seals, not so good for quick cable connect or battery replacement as they7 added a second lock....was this really necessary? I never had a problem....but now, man getting the thing open
-But the real kicker is the unit does not come iwth a battery charger, you must actually insert the battery IN THE CAMERA to charge it and hook it to the computer or an outlet.....rendering the cam useless....so now you have to remember to leave the cam charging when not in use, so at least one battery is full. Major MAJOR problem!!!!
-photo menus keep changing despite saving settings....so the frikken flash goes off even tho previously I have saved the turn off flash. It makes my subjects move out of the field for another shot and also the menu shot selection keeps moving when bumping the selector switch or when in pocket turned on. NO settings are saved nor does it come back on on the default setting you want, shooting modes changes without notice, I have played with this thing for hours to get it to do what it should, no luck.
-any moving subject, no matter what setting except maybe the sports one with a high ISO is blurry.....it is ridiculous. Unless there is optimal lighting the delays also blurr as I need to move right after my shots
-inside shots are still totally poor, no matter what setting
-forget sports shots, all blurry in ANY light or setting
-charging while hooked to the computer takes eons
-you make the button to turn the friggen thing on recessed so you cannot even use it but the video switch is perfect for in-pocket video taping, perrrrrfect!!
-the new slideshow function is an annoyance and once on I cannot figure out how to turn it off
-my partner got one too, same results and his battery did not take a charge that lasted more than 1/2 hr of intermittent picture taking.
-have not yet tried underwater but it probably leaks too now!!!

I had work purchase this camera to replace my aging 770 which I was extremely happy with from an operational perspective and the thing only had some issues with indoor shots, otherwise all good.

WELL, this new one is just a piece of CRA@@##! so much for relying on previous success of models. My use is point and shoot, I need to respond quickly and shoot while moving most of the time. Outdoor shots in any light mostly and I like preset settings that I don't mind entering. I cannot afford to have the battery go dead and the last one had very little warning so secondary battery was a must.

I cannot return this piece of shi@ cuz work purchased it and to get a receipt is equivalent to moving mountains so now I am stuck with this crap paperweight and will have to buy my own.....TRY BEFORE U BUY even when familiar with the model!!!
Thanks for AGAIN changing the type of battery and card....so another card, $85. another battery $65. So I cannot even use my old batteries and the charger that came with it.

This camera sucks on so many levels it is not even funny!!

Screw you Olympus!! Like Ford you guys are off my list forever!!

770 Stylus Tough

I bought this camera because I wanted a camera I could take with me anywhere and withstand anything, but still take some good pictures. I have loved this camera for the short time I've had it, BUT I would not recommend pushing the limit on that depth max. I took it on a shallow dive (we weren't going more than 30 ft down), and it crapped out at 15ft. It is damaged beyond repair, but it is under warranty and under Best Buy's service plan, so I cannot wait to get my replacement one. I'll keep it on the boat next time I put a tank on my back, though.

Compact, lightweight, easy to use, almost indesctructible, software is awesome for downloading and preserving memories. LOVE IT!

I don't like that you have to leave the battery/memory card open while recharging and downloading pictures. To me it seems to leave lots of room for dust, debris and even damage to the camera during these processes.

Well, I am not a professional, but this camera is awesome. I love the video and picture features. I haven't used it underwater yet, but can't wait to video my kids swimming. It's so compact and is suer easy to operate. I am so excited about this camera. I want to use it everyday.
