Summary: Firstly, the price above is a combined total for 2 cameras. I have had two D60's and both, though used, were emaculate specimens that had seen almost no use. I sold my first one to try the waters of Olympus, but less than 5 months later I had sold the E-500 I had replaced my first D60 with, and used the money to buy my second.
I had the choice to go with eth 10D, or even the 20D, but having used the D60 I was more than satisfied to return to it. It truly is a wonderful camera. I have used the 20D, and it never felt quite right to me. Admittedly I use a vertical grip with my D60, and before that my D30, and I did not have that when I used the D20.
As a first DSLR for a SERIOUS amateur, or a backup for the 20D/30D crowd, the D60 is anawesome choice, and can be had at bargin. If you are a beginer/snapshooter that wants a glorified point and shoot camera get a rebel. this camera is a serious photographic tool, and there is a somewhat steep learning curve when stepping up from compact/prosumer cameras.
I could go on and on about the D60. it's a great camera, but everything that could be said has been said. All that matters is that I love this camera, and it will not be leaving me for a long time.
Check out my gallery for samples.
Strengths: Image quality is outstanding. It's a Canon. Long battery life. WB is very acurate.
Weaknesses: ISO 1000 instead of 1600?
Although it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be, the low light AF could have been much better.

Summary: Whooo ! what a camera ! at iso 100,200 and up to 400 it beats my canon d20! and from 800 to 1000 with raw and use of phase one soft ware(C) its better or as good as D20 !!!? not bad for an old DSLR the famed Canon D60 still rules.
And best of all,the focus in daylight never guesses its right SPOT ON every time..no misses..and in low light i use the canon EX550 focus assist light(whoop probs gone.)
Paired with a 24-70 L and /or a 70-200 and the delicous 50 mm 1,4 i make bread and butter with this jewel on and on again. so far this sample i got have made more than 70.000 exposures( i bought it 2 hand) ! its pretty good for such and oldie.
And Now for the best folks::: You know all his talk about 10 D and then 1 D mk 2 and so on more or less making back focus probs is really not a problem with the>60> and as a result we get extreeemely sharp pics every time for the clients ! and no dust on the cmos and easy going battery life !!my happy list goes on exept for one tiny but very important thing;the start up time..grrr....BUT in general;
IM JUST HAPPY for this >old> machine!(secret;;)its better than ...anyone believes..gracias Canon.
Strengths: all see above..its also strong strong made and light as well..and durable.
Weaknesses: none

Summary: What a great deal, of course it is not the best ever digital camera. But, at that price (you should be able to find last ones in shops at bargain price) what a big opportunity. I had an EOS-630 and , as casual user, had never tried all the possibilities (Automatic bracketing, FPS,...) because I was a student and I could nor burn films neither develop them. Now, I can try all the possibilities without spending too much money as photography is just an hobby between others.
Also, most of the people here have a lot of lenses, some had the chance to use most of the existing cameras. I only had a Canon EOS 630 and a (finally not so old) Sony DSC30 digital camera with 2.1 megapixels. For me, the change is incredible, this is a top quality camera. Of course, AF is maybe a bit slow but I don't take pictures of Michael Schumacher or Carl Lewis every day (but I take pictures of my baby which moves as fast as the two sportsmen), of course it has not the build quality of a EOS D1 but take the price in consideration (and also, no, I am not going out with it under the rain and throwing it on the floor. Under normal conditions, I think it is reliable). First I was planning to buy a Nikon 5700. Almost same price here in Belgium but I can guarantee, not the same pictures !!
It gives me a new boost for the hobby and I will consider buying a Canon 24-70L 2.8. I improve a lot because I can shoot and see the result immediately. Moreover, it memorizes shooting condition (exposure, speed, aperture) so you can see how it affects the picture.
This is definitely a great purchase, maybe not for semi-professionals, but for a intermediate beginner, the change between this model and other cameras I had is spectacular (even with my cheap plastic 50/1.8 lens). I didn't had time and money to shoot same image at all apertures, all speeds, all bracketing and go to a development center just to see how it was rendering. Now I can test everything in my house.
I am surprising myself every day with the pictures I could take at my photography level with this camera.
Strengths: Price
Quality of pictures
Ability to try all possibilities without spending too much money for testing
Great weapon to improve yourself !!! (very important to me)
Weaknesses: AF to slow? (just what they say, not for me)
Don't see any regarding the price !

Summary: i have just started a business in photography, and this camera is our best employee..i would love and are saving up for the D1s however 13000$ can. is surly and investment. We have definetly made our money back with this camera..nice knowing it was a free piece of equipment. The AF is very week..i mainly go manual.. the exposure is unreliable, but you need to keep in mind that digital is so easily corrected in photoshop... i owned the elan 7e before this and you can't be fooled that when you take your prints into blacks or whatever lab you use..they are correcting your film, unless you are shooting slides, you just may not know they are doing this...now you do..blacks even advertises it! today infact i cleaned out my drawers and drawers of film.....and without a doubt i have spent more on film developing then the total digi cam. About the cam: Keep in mind the low price..AF week...Exposure?...better do test shots..ability to add on..flash..extra battery..grip...this is all great. the resolution is fantastic...truly...13x19 no worries at all...even just in jpg large setting. handy viewfinder..takes some time understanding exposure throught the 1.8 inch diplay. The build.well it did fall over on the tripod and smashed on boulders on a windy shoot....yes this sucked...alot! The canera was out of comission for over three weeks...the customer help was questionable....however because the camera was quite new thay dropped 50% off the repair cost...which was only 200$..not bad for a digital gone wrong..only the top piece of the camera was damaged..but didn't smash into pieces....and understand..boulders, ice, stong wind..tears! O.K. i love this thing... making me money and happy all at the same time. No bias at all but i have heard reviews about the equvilant of Nikon's D100...not so good.. i don't have shares in Canon. For the level we are at..(business partner) and the jobs we do...yes there is room for improvemnet which Canon has addressed with the D10..fantastic! all said it is great to have this on my side...i look to getting my hands on the D1s..in the mean time..click click click.
P.S...alot of people put Digital down because it is not..true photography!! well it is just not old school photography..if Kodak had even had the ability to do digi back in the day....do you think he would have desided to handle dangerous chemicals and fiddle with them in a very dark room...mmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder?
Strengths: Wows people and clients to see results.A.S.A.P...ability to check work and exposure....the digital will cut your learning curve by 50% for sure....colour clearity is good...i run everything throght photshop no matter what....
Weaknesses: AF...Exposure....A little bulky with the extra battery and grip...!.6 ratio ...is really hard to look past...say good by to vast feeling in landscape shots....have to understand the 1.6 till you know hwat is coming..

Customer Service: a bit slow and you have to keep on them..however they did offer a great deal..and they informed me!..i didn't ask or even think of it.
Summary: As a reluctant convert to the world of Digital photography I have "played" with several inexpensive point and shoot digicams. After using my D60 I will probably retire my EOS 1N-RS to a nice storage case. The fact that I can take a photo and have instant feedback is incredible. The camera shoots more than enough fps for most of the photgraphy I do and when it doesn't I still have the 1n-RS. Is it perfect absolutely not... the AF is slow but having used the old EOS-630 and 650 its faster than either of them. Even the 1n-RS (Top of the line) has been known to hunt in certain situations with the wrong lense. The 10D should address this problem with the 7 AF points. The fact that my 540EZ only works in manual mode is major annoyance but not a showstopper. It simply means I'll trade it for a 550EX. The plastic body with metal lense mount is like many of the lower models remember this is not a pro camera. I normally hate plastic cameras but with the Battery Grip (BG-ED3) it has just the right weight and size for easy handling particularly with the hand strap attached. Picture quality is incredible. The 1.6x magnification factor is only a problem when I want that really really wide shot. Overall there are some minor annoyances but then again EVERY camera has those even the ones in there 4th or 5th generation. This is just the 2nd generation can't wait to see what the 5th generation of Digital SLRs will be like.
Strengths: 1.6x Magnification
6 Mega-pixel resolution
Compact Flash memory
Uses most Canon Accessories
Full Manual still available
Weaknesses: Slow AF in Low-light
1.6x Magnification during Wide angle
