Review 1 of 49

Price Paid:  $74.00 from ebay

Summary:

I bought this secondhand on ebay so I didnt need to risk taking my EOS1v on geological fieldwork in Spain with me but I could still use the lenses I have. It has almost all the facilities which I have on the EOS1v ( or at least all the ones I use!) and some that it doesn't such as the IR remote control. It is nice to use and takes quite presentable pictures which I generally get scanned immediately on processing as it is difficult to scan APS later. I like it a lot and leave it in the car with a TOKINA 19-35 zoom on it for those just-in case photos. The panoramic format is just right for landscape photos for geology/geography. The format makes my 75-300 IS zoom into c 420mm which is a a lens length I cant afford for my EOS1v!

Strengths:

Very nice design, APS format is convenient for travelling. Good facilities

Weaknesses:

Flash is weak and it is very easy to get shadow from the lens if you are using a superwide angle

Similar Products Used:

haven't used it

Review 2 of 49

Price Paid:  $140.00 from E-Bay

Summary:

This camera works very well if you are comfortable with the limitations of APS. We recently used an IX on a trip to Italy, and high quality shots of the entire trip in both color and B&W formats. It appears that Canon is now moving away from SLR APS; I'm not sure why. All I know is that I can mess around with shutter speeds, apertures and depth of field issues while my wife can use this camera as a point-and-shoot.

Strengths:

Wieght is much better than a 35 mm Eos. Features near equal to 35 MM Canon products. Output quality of photos is very good. APS film can is a better storage device than 35 MM negatives (my opinion only).

Weaknesses:

No resale value whatsoever.

Review 3 of 49

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Ritz Camera

Summary:

This camera is a real jewel. In regards to the quality of its features and construction, it's better than the Rebel 2000 or any comparable 35mm camera. It features a high quality construction better than any entry level AF SLR (regardless of label) and as good as several intermediate or mid-level SLRs. In terms of its features, it has a faster maximum shutter speed (1/4000) than the Rebel 2000 or comparable 35mm (again, any make). Feature-wise, it's comparable to the now discontinued Canon Elan II. If one were to buy a comparable new 35mm SLR, one would bypass the Rebel 2000 and set up to the Elan 7. The metal chasis and metal lens mount make for this camera's quality constuction. Of course, what good is a great bulid and great features if your images always come out bad? Well, I haven't had this problem with this camera. Just stay away from Fuji Nexia and you won't either. Spend the extra dollar or two for a pack of Kodak Advantix. The same or similar shots taken with Advantix were ALWAYS better than Nexia- both indoors and outdoors. The weight of this camera combined with certain lenses may be a concern for some. It hasn't been the case for me, however. I also like the way the camera fits my hands. Smaller hands may prefer the IX Lite. I recently ordered a Tokina 19-35mm lens. Can't wait to try it out on this gem. I think the Tamron 24-135 would be a great match for this camera. Maybe next year....

Strengths:

Quality build Features Full APS Features (C,H,P masking, midroll rewind)

Weaknesses:

Some users may consider it a little heavy. Masking difficult to see in low light.

Review 4 of 49

Price Paid:  $150.00 from eBay

Summary:

I purchased this camera as a beginner- it was my first SLR. I have had no complaints about it. It seems to handle almost any situation I'm in, and if something went wrong, it's easy for me to figure what the camera didn't like thanks to the data placed on the back of my prints. I do occasionally get some graininess at 400 speed and above, but I think that that's mostly due to my inexperience. 200 and 100 speed color films work great (I greatly prefer Fuji to Kodak in this area). I have a friend with a Minolta 35mm; I've used that camera on a few occasions. It is not nearly as good as this Canon APS camera. The Speedlite 420EX works great on it too. Overall, it's a conveniently sized, sturdy, full-featured camera. I've enjoyed it immensely.

Strengths:

Great macros with my 22-55 USM! Good battery life. Bright view finder. All the APS features (except the smaller frame size). Metal lens mount.

Weaknesses:

On board focus-assist is too close to lens. Could use an auto-off feature of some sort. I'm forever leaving it on when I put it in my bag.

Customer Service:

Not needed.

Review 5 of 49

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Keh

Summary:

Bought it used with 24x85 lens. This camera has eye control. Seen nobody''s review had that. Its ok. Trying to deside if I want to get eye control on EOS-7, $50 dollars for new I think. This is a well made camera. I let other people use it and they think its the best camera they used. Sure they used some junk stuff. I got Pentax PZ-1p. The canon lens and the sigma hsm lens work better. Pentax lens are just ok and I''m look to get rid that brand. I got 500 old Pentax lens that fits this APS camera with adapter and will keep that lens. Film is the problem, price buying and devolpeing. And the choice of film can''t found 100 locally. Kodak 400 is to grainy. I don''t even like Kodak 200 , Fuji 200 is ok for 10 x 8. That''s the choice of film locally. 35mm locally hasn''t much of choice either though. Changing meter program isn''t the best. Basically haven''t a choice. But for people shots this camera sure works good. All the 35mm lens mount will fit APS. And you can get adapters for older Canon lens and maybe even others. They just fit not work autofocus. But 24x 85 is 30 x 106 or so. 500 is 625 thats good the 24 to 30 is bad.

Strengths:

Fits all 35mm canon lens. Gain length on longer lens this helps. Well made not a plastic lens mount. ( i broke that pentax one just by using the camera )I suppose size if your hands are small and 35mm is little big or heavy.

Weaknesses:

Film price and what you can get. Need Genuine Fractals software if you want better enlargements. 4X6 type prints are best. I don''t like the remote timer at all. Not easy to get metering like I want at times. Pentax is the best probably at that.

Similar Products Used:

Only box camera APS. 35mm slr are the same. Its the film

Customer Service:

Called to get and order USA manual I can''t read Japan. Said they would warrantee it. This camera was brand new still had plastic and the box sealed .
