    Strength:

    Compact.

    Weakness:

Poor Microphone placement. Poor Low Light Performance. Plastic flap covers are flimsy and will eventually break off, trying to be careful to avoid the inevitable when charging and dubbing.

It's a great compact MiniDV camcorder. I love it. Nightshot works great.

    Strength:

Size, features, ease of use, picture quality, build quality.

    Weakness:

Not a cheap camcorder but still worth it! Battery. Buy the extended hours battery. memory stick to small. Buy the 120meg

The Sony DCR-PC9 is a great little camcorder. It has more features on it than you will probably ever use. I really bought it for it's size and it's easiness to travel with. I bought a new camera small camera bag with it and I can fit the whole camcorder, 2 batteries, all the necessary cables (i.e. usb cord, monster cable etc.) the AC power adaptor, battery charger plus about 5-6 tapes too. I had a HI8 before this Sony and it was a pain to travel with. The one thing you do have to get used to with the DCR-PC9 is the microphone. It is located on the top of the camera so sometimes your fingers can cover it while your filming. It's not a big deal but it is something you have to get used to. The picture quality is superb! Do not buy this camera for still pictures to print. It's fine for e-mail but don't buy it with the intentions of printing pictures. You'll be disappointed. Buy a digital camera for that. Overall, you will not find a better camera for it's size and quality. You can spend less, but you will get less. Thumbs up to Sony for a great, compact, user friendly and fun camcorder.

    Strength:

Little, 1.1 lbs., Touch screen menu and optical zoom

    Weakness:

    Little over priced.

PC9 was released as an alternate to PC5. Battery life is good when compared to PC5. In PC9, I like the touch screen menu, which is really cool, and you don''t really need to search or carry your manual to operate (except for some special effects). It''s that simple. But in my opinion, people with big fingers might find it difficult to operate this touch screen. Since my hand is an average size, the Zooming position is perfect and this PC9 is made for my hand. Again people with big hand might find it difficult to operate the Zoom. I also agree the lens cap is dangling while I use it, which I don''t like it. Still Picture capability is only 640x480. It is more than enough for me to take vacation or birthday pictures. Optical Zoom is just wonderful. Both on the Tele zoom and Wide angle Zoom, you will get the same clarity. They have an option to turn the Digital Zoom ON/OFF. When I turn ON the Digital Zoom and focused to its max of 120x gives a deteriorated image (which all the Digital Zoom Camcorders does). I planned to turn this Digital Zoom OFF forever. I tried using this in absolute darkness and I amazed to see the perfect images in the screen. Mirror image capturing is another cool stuff, and I recorded me by watching my face in the screen. Battery life of PC9 is much better than PC5. I still have many things to explore in this little dude.
