from KEH.com Summary: By the time anyone reads this, the coolwalker will be history as Nikon is redesigning it. But a few are left in stores and you can buy them second hand for around 225 on ebay or less on Nikon forums. I paid even less for mine.
1) This allows Nikon users to upload a CF card to a 30 GB hard drive so you can keep on shooting without buying a bunch of cards. I was able to upload a 1GB lexar card with NEFs and JPGs in about 4 minutes.
2) The screen on the unit is small and not great. But it's just fine for seeing what you have and it allows zooming and panning.
3) Battery life is somewhat weak. I was able to upload about 5 cards, then it needed a charge. So field users may want a spare battery.
4) There are adapters for those who don't use CF cards.
5) Once connected to a PC, the unit acts like a USB hard drive and works very fast, working better than a card in the computers dedicated CF slot.
6) The unit can be connected to a TV, but picture quality is fair to poor at best. A remote is also included for slide shows.
7) The unit is well sized and seems robust enough, especially when stored in it's fitted case.
Bottom Line:
There are better units out there, such as the Epson with it's much nicer screen. But if you can locate a Coolwalker for 200 bucks used, it's a nice deal when you don't want to lug around a notebook. Use it as a portable drive with a screen and it will serve you well.
Capt RB Strengths: Smaller than my notebook, reliable thus far, reasonably fast but NOT for folks shooting very high volume where uploads will be long and battery hungry. Uploads are even slower with large D200 files. Weaknesses: Battery life is short, good for 4-5 1G uploads, screen is so-so and small. Use of other card formats (Such as SD for D50 users) rquires 3rd party adapter. Similar Products Used: Epson P2000 Customer Service: Unknown-value rating is based on buying one used!
