Summary:

Product Review When planning extensive photo shoots using a digital camera I am usually limited by the compact flash card in my camera. I can extend the number of images I can take by either decreasing the sensitivity of my camera or take the images using a higher JPG compression ratio. JOBO has developed a hard drive that can be carried in your camera bag and will enable you to store up to 20 gigabytes of images. The name of this product is NIXVUE. This product comes with a rechargeable base unit that also serves as a vehicle to insert images into your computer’s digital programs, as well as a recharger. Adapters are available for all storage medium. This base also connects to the video input of a TV set to enable you see the images you took and to manage them. eg delete, rotate, magnify and create new folders. One additional feature is the slide show program, that enables you and guests to see your images at a pre-determined rate of change. The NIXVUE measures 5.7X3.3X1.1 inches and comes with a soft protective carrying case which hold an adapter and memory card. There are improved memory storage cards such as the new 1 GIG compact flash card and the IBM 1 Gig Microdrive, all of which cost $300-400 each . The Nixvue cost between $400 and $500 depending on the hard drive (10Gig or 20 Gig) but you get up 10 to 20 times the memory capacity. This unit when connected to your computer can also be used as an auxillary hard drive. On a recent trip to Florida I decided to go completely digital. I did not want to go through the hassel of carrying film only to have it ruined by X-ray machines. I ‘shot’ images at the lowest compression and at the end of each day would download the files to the Nixvue. After downloading images into the Nixvue I could verify that they were transferred successfully before erasing my storage card. When I arrived home I had a record of my daily photographs which were downloaded into my computer. I could have made over 30 transfers to the Nixvue’s hard drive before it would need to be recharged. This is an exceptionally useful products for the photographer on the go and I recommend it highly.

Strengths:

Light weight with padded carrying case Can view images on TV

Weaknesses:

As all hard drives suseceptable to damage if dropped.

Customer Service:

Internet service very good
