Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $150.00 from outpost.com

Summary:

I've used this scanner for two years to digitize and store 50 years of family photography. I've scanned almost 3000 prints of varying age and quality as well as over 1000 slides and negatives. I am very happy with the results I have had with this scanner.

Strengths:

It is a super value at $150.

Weaknesses:

It is a little slower than other scanners I have used.

Similar Products Used:

This is my third flat bed scanner. The other 2 were reflective only.

Customer Service:

Never had to call them.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $150.00 from Acer OnLine

Summary:

My second Acer scanner. Works great reflective. Purchased 1240UT for scanning color slides, and worked well - for a while - then light lid light bar makes nasty poses and refuses to move. Basically worthless for slide transparency scanning, but while it worked the 5x7 scanning area allowed 6 slides at a time. Would not recommend this for long time use for slides!

Strengths:

Very good quality reflective scanning.

Weaknesses:

Slide scanning light lid light bar refused to work after scanning maybe 200 frames. Have seen other reviewers' similar problems.

Customer Service:

Not tried - product out of warranty and company sold?

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $150.00 from canada computers, ki

Summary:

This is a great scanner for scanning PRINTS, but as for using the transparency unit, it is as good, or bad, as most that come with flatbed scanners. Your slides will turn out way too dark, and so will your negatives, becoming way too light once inverted. It does a great job at scanning from prints, books or anything reflective. But as for scanning films, it still looks like you have to buy a film scanner to get good results. There is no workaround to this. Adjusting contrast and saturation will only help so much.

Strengths:

-Very good reflective performance -Good price for 1200dpi

Weaknesses:

-Transparency scans are way too dark -If you''re buying it for that, DON''T!

Similar Products Used:

Misc. Umax, HPs, Epson and Canon''s

Customer Service:

Used to exchange power adapter, had to return entire unit to get a replacement one but good service.

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $120.00 from e-bay

Summary:

For its price, this scanner is hard to beat. It is not going to give you spectacular files, but for scanning negatives and transparencies it will give you good enough results for web use and small inkjet prints. It scans reflective material very well also. The MiraScan software is excellent, providine all the tools you would ever want in an easy to use interface.

Strengths:

Built in transparency adaptor. USB MiraScan software is excellent

Weaknesses:

You have to wait for the entire preview to appear before moving on to the next action. the scanning time can be quite slow. The glass isn''t replaceable, so if you scratch it, you''re in trouble.

Agfa Snapscan

Customer Service:

haven''t had to use it
