Review 1 of 7

Price Paid:  $425.00 from PD World

Summary:

Outstanding scanner for 35 mm film and slides. If you can find one grab it along with an older PC running windows 98 and it's a brilliant piece of kit. Calling it obselete is short-sighted. I kept my Compac presario from 1998 for this reason. Yes it's old and has rubbish spec by todays standards but it cuts the mustard as far as scanning goes and i wouldn't be without it. The old lady sits next to it's brother a Fujitsu Pentium 4 with my loaded iMac 24 as my mainstay. My recently bought blu-ray laptop is on ebay as i decided a macbook would better suit my newfound love for macs.

Review 2 of 7

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I upgraded my computer to XP and Epson will not support the product for any system after Windows 98. No drivers or anything so it can't be used. I recommend never buying anything from Epson ever again if this is the way they treat their customers.

Strengths:

NONE - it does not work on the worlds most popular operating system (Windows XP)

Weaknesses:

No drivers for XP

Review 3 of 7

Price Paid:  $199.00 from PC World I think

Summary:

This machine has served me well for the three years that I have been using it. Although I meant to I never got round to actually getting the APS attachment but for scanning 35mm it was great. Integrating well into other packages this machine has been the foundation of many of the images that I have since commited to my own and other web sites. However. Over the years my computing requirements increase. So I replaced my old machine to a whizzy new Windows XP machine. Oh dear. This scanner is not supported on anything newer than Windows '98! No drivers .. nothing. To make matters worse Epson do not have a replacement product and do not have an XP driver in the pipeline. So as far as Epson is concerned I'm going to buy another manufacturers scanner .. and being the brand loyal consumer that I am .. I'll probably chuck away my Epson printers as well for something new. Bad idea Epson

Strengths:

It's a very simple machine to use on SCSI or parallel. It integrates well with other packages and provides very good quality output.

Weaknesses:

No support for anything newer than 1999. That makes it a dead machine.

Similar Products Used:

Microtek, Kodak and the such like

Customer Service:

The on-line 'chat' to a help desk technician is good, but takes a a short while to get connected. Better than being on hold at 50p a minute though!

Review 4 of 7

Price Paid:  $200.00 from ebay

Summary:

Amazing good quality out of the scanner for such a low priced machine. Reliable, average speed, low res only to 1200 dpi native.

Strengths:

Good color quality (negs) most of the time. Simple operation for novice user. Supported by Vuescan software.

Weaknesses:

much lower than most scanners now out there. 2400-2900 typical, and up to 4000-4800 (high end) available at present.

Similar Products Used:

Minolta Q35, Q35s, and early Dimage. Nikon Ls2000, and Kodak RFS 3600, and Epson 2450 flatbed....

Customer Service:

Haven't ever had to use it with this scanner. Epson isn't bad though.....

Review 5 of 7

Price Paid:  $300.00 from 1999

Summary:

Decent product at that time. But it can't compete with anything new.

Strengths:

Low price at that time. Speed not too bad.

Weaknesses:

Contrast is JUST acceptable. Anything beyoind a well balanced shot is usually loosing details in the dark and needs a lot rework to be printable.

Similar Products Used:

None
