from NY Summary: I rented this scanner for 4-5 months and used it mostley for 35mm. I get 8000 dpi scans from 35mm. I blow these up to over 4 feet insome cases and they are beautiful. this scanner gave me better results than some scans done by Bureaus on a Heidelberg Tango scanner. I love the results this scanner gives me and it seems almost as good, if not better than hi end drum scans for 35mm. Strengths: quick scans even at highest resolution, somewhat easy to load. hi dpi from 35mm, does not damage film, very sharp. Weaknesses: No full frame possibility. the magnetic holders cut off a tiny part of the image area. They say there is a reason for this due to auto exposure, but they should make a full frame holder available for those who want to do manyal exposure. Poor response by tech people. Software not the greatest, but they seem to be improving it. ONe very bad thing is the insistance on sharpening unless you put in minus numbers. Another is having to fool the software in order to get 8000 dpi for both horizontally and vertically positioned 35mmfilm frames. 2 1/4 can only be scanned to a relatively small size. don't know why. for example, i get a 480 MB file from 35mm at 8000 dpi / 16 bit and only about 100 mb from 2 1/4. they would not replace a faulty neg holder they sold. Similar Products Used: nikon 4000, heidelberg tango, minolta dimage 5400 II Customer Service: they try and avoid helping you and push you back to a rep who has provided the machine to you and most often the rep i had did not have a clue as to the intricacy of the quesiton i was asking. So tech was a problem, but it could be solved if you fought and argued your way thru. Also, they would not replace a faulty neg holder they sold.
