Review 1 of 7

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Technik direct (Germany)

Summary:

Good product but software should have been better

Strengths:

High resolution scans, perfect for making posters. Quality of scans is better than flatbed scanner

Weaknesses:

Software doesn't work under W2K. QuickScan software is not working properly under Windows ME and sometimes gives problems with WIN98

Similar Products Used:

HP 6300c flatbed scanner

Customer Service:

Very hard to reach

Review 2 of 7

Price Paid:  $320.00 from Photography store in California

Summary:

I belive this is a scanner for leisure. If you scan more than 300 photos a month, as I did, It will not fulfill your needs. It is a cumbersome and faulty machine. Noisy. Better off buying for $100 de Minolta scanners.

Strengths:

Easy to use.

Weaknesses:

It overheats too much. Not good for batch jobs. It took Kodak a year to come up with software that scanned the whole roll in one batch. Slow. After a year, it broke down.

Similar Products Used:

Minolta Dimage Dual Scan

Customer Service:

Good, they replace dthe faulty version within the warranty period, but this one also failed

Review 3 of 7

Price Paid:  $350.00 from Kodak

Summary:

It could be faster. Don't know if it could be quieter with all the mechanical things going on.
I didn't see a way to put all the data from the tape strip into a file.

If you know PCs and have a CD burner, buy it, you'll like it.

Strengths:

Simple to install
Easy to use. Great way to put pictures on CD if you have a CD burner.

Weaknesses:

Slow. It takes a long time to scan a full roll of film (24exp).

The film roll itself can be damaged if care isn't used pushing in the tab if not in far enough for the scanner to read as used.

Similar Products Used:

I have a Mikrotec (sp?) for 35mm film. It is a three pass scanner for color so no comparison.

Customer Service:

So far, no problems. (I've had it about 6 months or more.

Review 5 of 7

Model Reviewed:
ADVANTIX Film Drive FD 300

Summary:

For occasional use it is a decent product at a good price, going to get the Canon Canoscan.

Strengths:

Works well for casual use. Easy to set up and run.

Weaknesses:

Little control on scan quality, overheats and doesn't provide clean scans all the time. About 30% of scans have white pixels or off-color pixels mixed in. Have to re-scan when this happens.

Similar Products Used:

None
