Very good quality little film scanner. I use for both dia and negative scanning.
Can be used under Windows 10 64 bit with VueScan software.

Strength:

Relatively robust. I've had it for well over a decade.

Weakness:

The bundled software produces horrible scans.

Those who criticise this scanner should take a look at the software they are using. Forget what came in the box and try using Vuescan and you will see much better results.

Strength:

The price was right however I lost money trying to make this darn thing to work

Weakness:

Lame error codes Error = 5 Win2k or Error = 1 on XP
It works great when it works Sh*ty when it doesn't 95% of the time

The Colors are not true, it seems to produce Green tint on Fuji 100asa film

The darn thing works Great when it feels like working, however I am falling back to my Nikon scanners because this one has issues

Strength:

Good software allows a lot of control over gamma and white point settings. Easy to use

Weakness:

Clumsy transport system Dust-prone

Scan quality was fine for web images. However I had major problems with the transport system. After doing an index scan, the scanner would frequently eject the film holder, feed it back in again and all subsequent scans would have a thin pixilated line down the centre. Turning the scanner off and on was the only way to correct the problem. Upgrading the driver helped at one point, but then I upgraded the operating system and the problem started up again. The unit was sent in to Minolta, with samples, while still under warranty but they claimed they were unable to replicate the problem. It's annoying and I would not recommend the scanner for this reason.

Customer Service

Henry's did their best but the problem was with the manufacturer. No difficulties with them but they claimed they were unable to replicate the problem, which continues to this day.

Strength:

- Price - Good for Web utility

Weakness:

- Cheap body (100% plastic) - USB connexion - Horizontal slot (bad for dust) - Very slow prescan - Very slow scanning - Bad color management (to much Blue/Magenta)

Despite the good intentions of Minolta, this scanner don''''t give us the minimum quality we looking for (If you want great large quality prints). To those who need a film scanner only to ship pictures by E-Mails or to incorporate picture into Microsoft Word pages it''''s O.K. The best advices I can give you is: stay away from that scanner and stay away from any model who had USB connexion.

Strength:

Price, volume,usb bus,good resolution

Weakness:

Software , increases grain, scratches and dust ,noisy and very slow.

I think that is a good choice for anybody who don''t need fast scans. The quality is good but you''ll get bests results and more image control if you select "positive film", even you''re using negative. Then , invert colors in photoshop and adjust levels. The minolta software is very limited correcting gamma.

Strength:

USB Plug and Play - yes it works! Good, versatile scanning software + photoshop LE. Good, sharp, low noise scans (grain visible on 400ISO negs at max resolution - soften in Photoshop or Paintshop Pro to remove). Dmax appears to exceeds spec. Good colour saturation. 12Bits per channel - exports at 8Bits or 16Bits.

Weakness:

Digital ICE would be nice but price would increase. Dust can be a problem - make sure negs and slides are clean. A little slow (mainly due to my computer - I need more RAM and faster processor)

An excellent scanner. Automatic settings can be used but software provides for manual settings which I prefer. Good tonal range and colour fidelity. Auto or manual focus control. High quality scans at a reasonable price.

Customer Service

Not required but downloaded manual before purchase with no problem.

Strength:

USB
User Friendly
Affordable
Good quality scans from negatives without real need for correcting anything.
Scan Quality on APS good enough for A3!

Weakness:

No Digital ICE
Slow, even on a 800Mhz Machine with 400Mb RAM and lots of free space. Think of 2min/frame (1024/768).
Manual focus not that good. Actually you can't see what you do because the scanned resolution is to low in the prescan to evaluate.
APS lacks access to APS Data, which would be boon to sort/save film on date/time!
Advanced function only saves TIFF, prescan slow.
Easy lacks back button to scan next role (annoying).
Claims USB Resource during scanning (forget printing with Epson 1200 or Using a ISDN modem simultaneous)

Excellent value for money! User Friendly. Negative to Positive in Auto mode works very good, no correction needed in most cases. APS function rudimental. Lacks access to IX Data which is easy for archiving. No Digital ICE!
Prescan resolution to low for real good correction.

Customer Service

US Site does not allow european customers to enter mail due to NL extention.

Minolta please let this machine access the full APS IX data info and use it to correct your pictures. And us the data to archive them on date and time. If possible try to recognize the film brand and type and link this to preferred settings and a small database.
Give the machine some ICE!
Check the USB protocol.
Put an Index and No Index button on the Easy Interface second window and forget the first one.
This would surpass the rest of the field with ease.

Strength:

- High resolution. Only matched or bettered by Polaroid.
- Very low noise. In most cases, you won't see any noise.
- Software very good. This little Minolta program that came with it is quite extensive.

Weakness:

-None for its price range.
-ICE would be nice, but for the money?
-USB if you don't have that capability.

This is a great little scanner for the money. It delivers very sharp results. When coupled with Ed Hamrick's VueScan software, there is no rival below $1300. After several test scans and a review of several test scans from other vendors, I can say that is a great value. If you want higher quality and resolution, the Polaroid is a better scanner, but at a high price tag.

Strength:

Price, user friendly, USB interface, APS capability, simple and effective software, from a good reputation maker, iMac compatible

Weakness:

A bit noisy, a bit slow (maybe because of limitations in my computer)

I have limited experience with film scanners but I like this one. It is simple, easy to work with, produce great results and, important in my case, it is affordable.
