Canon CanoScan 8000F

I bought this scanner instead of the comparable Epson model because it was available quicker. I am very happy with the picture quality.

Quality of output files is very good. Well, the colours that come from negatives are not quite right. But I mostly do slides, and they come out fab.

There seems to be a bug in Adobe Photoshop Elements that comes bundled with the scanner... I can't adjust all colours. But then I go to Arcsoft PhotoStudio instead.

i originally had the 1250u2f which scanned film as well but it can only scan one frame at a time. so i thought i would buy the 8000f because it can batch scan 12 film frames at a time. using a p4 at 1.7 ghz.,512 ddr, with no other apps running except ps7, it took the 1250u2f 33sec. to preview a frame and another 45 sec. to scan for a total of 1 min. and 18 sec. the 8000f took 1min. and 10sec. to preview 8 film frames and a whopping 4min. and 30sec. to scan each film frame. so trying to scan the negatives for a 36 frame roll will take you about 3 hours including changing and replacing the film strips. another thing that i noticed is that when scanning 3 photos at a time with multiscan is almost impossible. it would crop out parts of the 2nd or the 3rd photo, which makes them un-useable. at other times it would scan all 3 photos and see them all as one photo. when scanning 2 photos, it would scan the whole width of the platen for the first photo (you'd have to crop it in ps7) but the 2nd photo would be perfect. lastly, just a design/layout issue. it scans 2 rows of 6 negative frames. it would have been better (maybe only where i' from) if it had 3 rows of 4 frames. the reason being is that my negatives are returned sliced 4 frames/sheet. i would have to slice up my negatives to take advantage of the 12 frames batch scanning, which just adds to the production time. if you have a lot of time to spare and like baby sitting your scannerthen this is the machine for you. the scanned images are very good and the price is certainly good as well. the software bundle is also very good. unfortunately, i purchased this scanner to increase my productivity. i have a feeling though that i'm not going to win any productivity races with this scanner. it actually decreases it. so it must be exchanged.

very, very, very slow scanning negatives; it should scan 3 rows of 4 instead of 2 rows of six negative frames; cropping or uncropping of photos; not a small machine.

Very good product. Good value for money. Good Software offer. The digitalization of the negative is perfect. Not of probleme noticed with this device.
