Price Paid:  $299.00 from Lasersoft Imaging In

Summary:

I have started using SilverFast DcPro a few month ago. I was so blown away by it's performance that I completely switched from Photoshop to SilverFast. I am using a Pentax 330 and I do all my Imaging work on a Dual 2Ghz G5. In most cases the Automatic of SilverFast really spices up my image a lot and then I just need to make some slight adjustments with the Exposure and Colour Temperature. The Gradation Adjustment Tool helps me to really recreate the right lighting setup. It can even handle very difficult lighting setups and recreate the full range of tones. The Light Table is a revolution in File Management. The workflow is really fast and intuitive. The preview is very fast and even huge albums load quickly. My most favorite function though is to print directly out of SilverFast. The Print function let's you place images on your page in what ever manner you want to and a little color skale shows you the current print quality of your image. I very often print multiple contact sheets of my image library for filing and SilverFast handles that very well. I just set up several print pages at the same time and then just sit back as SilverFast works of all the prints. I was also very happy to see that SilverFast is able to save JPEG 2000 which is so much more efficient then the older JPEG format which is completely outdated. I went to the SilverFast Website for getting information on several functions that where not absolutely clear to me and I watched some of the latest Video Tutorials that Lasersoft keeps updating regularly. They are just a few minutes long, but convey the lesson very well and I was able to pick up a lot of knowledge from the Video Tutorials.

Strengths:

- Clear Interface, good workflow with Light Table - Powerful Color Correction Tools - Great Print Dialog - Free Video Learning Tutorials - good SilverFast Forum

Weaknesses:

- the performance is fairly stable but every once in a while it still crashes

Similar Products Used:

Adobe Photoshop CS Adobe Elements 3

Customer Service:

I send a couple emails to the customer service and they responded within a day and solved my problems right away.
