from Specialty Video Supp Summary: The Price paid reflects a faculty discount. I started out with version 3.0 and am cuttently on Ver. 3.5.4. I teach Avid editing at my High School and quite honestly wouldn't bother with any other program. Avid is the first and best when it comes to the NLE world and I can't see teaching a platform that my kids won't ever see in college or the real world.
I love the interface and the way it is more or less the same through the product line. To be sure, we have the Saturn versiion of the software, but it still drives like the Lamborghini high end models. It just doesn't do as much. I would make sure that you check out the Avid web site to make sure that your hardware is compatible with the software. Try to go for the full Power Pack if you can swing it. The standard titling product leaves quite a bit to be desired. The plugins of the powerpack are very intuitive and offer more functionality for professional tastes. Prices are coing down, so be on the look out for good deals. Strengths: Avid support and a very feature rich, intuitive interface. Weaknesses: Titler. Ocassional problem burning DVD's when 5 of the necessary .dll files go on hiatus. Similar Products Used: Avid Media Composer, Digital Symphony and Media 100. Customer Service: Excellent.
