Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $50.00 from Online, Ulead Websit

Summary:

Ulead Video Studio 7 is much better than either of the two previous versions, from which I upgraded. For a novice like me, it is a fine program for digitizing VHS tapes and making edits of same. It provides fast rendering of compositions which have been captured using the program, while also rendering other compositions faster than competing programs.

Strengths:

Fast rendering (if captured using Ulead software), of compositions, compared to Pinnacle Studio 8. Easy to manually create clips. Updates are not buggy. Captures from analog VCR and TV. Edits all major types of DV (.mpg, .wmv, .rm,) for PC. Flexibility in determining output format speed.

Weaknesses:

Separation of video into smaller clips is too inflexible, manual creation of clips is more precise.

Similar Products Used:

Pinnacle Studio Version 8.4

Customer Service:

No complaints.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I had to upgrade my installation of video studio6 to 7 (75 megs download for the trial version) as with my new dvd burner capturing stopped after 2 mins. However ver 7 captured fine and burnt on to dvd fine although I was not happy with the quality of the final product. I will probably not buy the full version because of the quality of the dvds although it was easy enough to use.

Strengths:

quite simple interface supported dvd creation

Weaknesses:

poor quality final dvds version 6 did not capture properly through my firewire card

Similar Products Used:

mgi video studio (excellent but does not support dvd)

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

This works fine with my DV corders. easy to use and setup.

Strengths:

Great for snapping pictures durning run time without stopping to save. It saves it on the fly. Saves as avi almost instantly.

Weaknesses:

Doesn't do DV camcorder stills (off the memory card.) No sound when you play back your DV Camcorder in the record mode.

Similar Products Used:

Pinocle 8

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $80.00 from Circuit City

Summary:

A pretty intuitive DV editing package. Menus aren''t overly sophisticated while still giving enough features to produce professional results. IEEE Firewire support works with most new DV cameras. Many formats enable DVD/VCD Mpeg1 & 2 creation as well as NTSC and PAL support. Wishing it had a multiple track (video) overlay like Adobe Premier though. Also, the file library window for video/audio tracks is a bit clunky without the "list" format; you have to do a lot of scrolling up/down if you have many clips.

Strengths:

Easy to use, lots of output formats supported, adequate rendering speed (WinXP 256Mb Ram @1.8Ghz), good frame/timecode manipulation.

Weaknesses:

Advanced special effects, multiple overlays, etc not available, file interface a bit clunky.

Similar Products Used:

Digital Origin''s IntroDV - which isn''t a bad basic package, though no Mpeg support.
