Review 1 of 5

Summary:

I use this flash with Mamiya 645 AF; the results are great, but it's a pity you can't get control of 'red eyes'; in same circumstances (light) one person has red eyes, another not. And that you can't flash on second curtain, that's a great pity.

Strengths:

TTL is superb

Weaknesses:

No second shutter release; no red eyes control

None

Review 2 of 5

Price Paid:  $329.00 from www.cameraworld.com

Summary:

A great flash that has TTL functions as well as stroboscopic capabilities to act as a modeling light. This flash works extremely well with my Nikon F5 as well as my Mamiya 645 Pro TL. This flash has enough power for my wedding work as well as manual features for my product still work. Definitely superior to my Sunpak 433 AF for my Nikon. A nice lightweight flash on my Stroboframe bracket for professional work.

Strengths:

Pivoting head. Fill in flash. TTL capabilites with stroboscopic functions. Many flash levels with motorized head to match the focal length of the lens.

Weaknesses:

Price.

Similar Products Used:

Sunpak 433 AF

Customer Service:

Not used as of yet.

Review 3 of 5

Price Paid:  $260.00 from Audiophil Photo, Aachen, Germany

Summary:

probably the best flash

Strengths:

Has everything you need for creative flash photography. Zoom reflector from 20 to 105 mm, guide number of 40 (ISO 100, 50 mm), pivot-reflector from -13 to 90°, turnable 270°, stroboscope function, flash power decreasable, second flash reflector (very good for indirect lighing with main reflector when taking a portrait picture), lots of accessories, easy to use (don't get shocked by all the buttons, it's extremely logical - you'll like it!),

Weaknesses:

no high speed sync for Minolta and Nikon cameras, if you need it buy the new Metz 54 MZ3 (only about 30$ more),

Similar Products Used:

Minolta 3600 HS, 5400 HS

Customer Service:

Summary:

If you can afford the price and want an all around good flash unit it can not be beat.

Strengths:

Multiple heads are ideal for indoor candid type photography where a natural ambient effect is wanted.
Good power and extended zoom range.

Small nicad battery fits on unit without being to heavy and can last for an enitre day of shooting depending on conditions.

Weaknesses:

Complicated controls, I keep the manual in my bag.

Similar Products Used:

metz 60ct1,60ct4 and 45ct models
vivtar 280 and 285
nikon sb28

Customer Service:

Review 5 of 5

Model Reviewed:
40MZ 3i Power Zoom/AF Flash Unit

Summary:

If uou want power and all possibilities at lower price. Take 40MZ 3i.

Strengths:

High guide number. The Flash has all features invented until now. One can use it with every camera in the world (after changing SCA adapter). The power can be adjusted in 24! steps down to 1/256 power. There is second small flash build in for filling while bounce operation.

Weaknesses:

Complicated operation for advanced functions. The flas has got many keys and switches. For some functions (like strobo effect) one has to select two switches one on SCA adaptor and another on the flash.
