flimsy, akward, doesn't stay on camera waste of money

I shot about 10 rolls of test film with the promax. I disliked it so much that I never actually shot anything else with it. It was flimsy, the velcro didn't stick well, I had to use a rubberband to get it to stay, and it didn't look professional. The test film showed that it did SLIGHTLY diffuse my flash, but in my opinion it was not enough to justify the inconvenience of it. I wouldn't advise anyone to spend anywhere near $50 on it. I have since purchased a Westcott on-camera softbox (for $40) and I like it a lot.

Convienient. Don't have to bounce off of walls and ceilings. Easy to carry when not in use & uses very little space in bag. Versatile. Can be used with or without inserts.

May be a little large for some tastes. Its size might be an inconvienence when working in a crowd. This hasn't been a prblem with me so far.

I first saw one of these during a trip to Florida back in 2001. I took a few moments to ask the man about it and he very kindly obliged me. I made it a point to get one afterward. I haven't regretted it. I just love this thing and now won't consider not taking it anywhere I take my camera. I reccommend buying the metalic inserts with it, as I did. For my purposes, I've used the silver one mostly. I've had very little problems with exposure compensation using it, especially with the silver insert. My photos also don't have the tell-tale signs of direct flash. It has met and exceeded my expectations. As good as billed. It's great for when you want or need to soften the flash or when bouncing the flash is needed but difficult. Certaily beats using ceilings and walls for bouncing, which isn't always practical. I would reccommend this to anyone serious about photography. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, pro or ametuer, you need this. If you use an external flash, you need this. Your flash will have to have a bouncehead, of course. :)
