from secondhand Summary:Nice flash unit!
I use it mainly on an X700 as the main flash, and sometimes as a slave unit, and it produces consistent results, both with the TTL metering as well as in manual mode.
The really nice aspect of this strobe is that the sync voltage is really really really low at 1.7v (verified by yours truly), so there is no chance that this will fry your shutter electronics.
Major weakness is its inability to tilt and swivel. When used in conjunction with the Power Grip 2 (which I got shortly afterwards), this is cured. the Power Grip 2 also accommodates 4 additional AA cells, which enables you to get more exposures, and short bursts of multiipe exposures with the X700's Motor Drive 1.
The combination of 280PX and Power Grip 2 may seem prohibitively expensive (it wasn't for me since the strobe came in a very affordable package deal with an X700, an MD1 and a lens), but if you don't need lots of light, it's a very well-made and very versatile setup. If you need more light, you may want the 360PX instead. Strengths:Excellent electronics
Very consistent results
Quality stuff
Fairly quick & very quiet recharge after being fired. Weaknesses:No tilt or swivel
