Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

I purchased this flash to give me a little more punch than the on-camera flash. As long as you are aware of the limitations of a flash close to the lens and make allowances, you will be pleased. I use it with a Maxxum 5 and the combination of a light camera, and a small but reasonably-powered flash, plus the 28-80mm Zoom means that I carry my combo most of the time instead of a point-and-shoot camera. If I need more power, I have a larger flash with tilt, bounce, etc. but if I want to go light-weight, I've got the perfect companion in the 2000xi.

Strengths:

Small, and light.

Weaknesses:

No red-eye reduction. Does not use the most advanced TTL features of the Maxxum 5.

Customer Service:

Not used.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $85.00 from Ritz Camera

Summary:

As a brand new amateur photographer, I purchased this flash in 1994 for my Minolta 400si and this was my only flash for 1 year. Back then I tried to stay OEM. After I got my Sunpak 4000PZ in 1995 or 1996, I rarely use my Minolta 2000xi. The Minolta 2000xi lacks tilt, bounce, zoom, etc. I ONLY use the Minolta 2000xi for a backup flash when I (on VERY rare occasion) have to use my Tamrac 515 holster. Do yourself a favor and spent your $85 on a 3rd party flash such as Sunpak instead.

Strengths:

Still working after 6 years

Weaknesses:

No tilt, no bounce, expense if new, too close to lens to prevent red eye
