Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $65.00 from Ebay

Summary:

A marvellous bit of kit. In the tough leather case this will travel anywhere with you and is always ready. I haven't yet really used it for low light situations, but I did buy it for its wide range, just in case I did need it for that.

Strengths:

Large, chunky, robust, well-made, reliable, battery life is good even with rechargeables. The add-ons for flash, spot, etc make it one of the most versatile meters.

Weaknesses:

None that I've found; the size is sometimes a bit of a drawback, but the very size of it makes it a pleasure to use.

Similar Products Used:

Older selenium cell meters, camera integral meters.

Customer Service:

From what I've heard, Gossen are really good at supporting their older products, but I've yet to need it. This meter is like new, despite being years old.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $125.00 from Oceanside Pro Photo,

Summary:

This is a wonderful piece of machinery. It uses a high quality SBC photo cell that I use to check my other camera equipment and lens (wide angle - due to fall off). It works well enough for regular scenes. I have made a couple of personal mistakes with it (human error), but oh well, what are you going to do. I just have to remember since it takes incident and reflected metering to uncover the bulb from the front reading hole to take my most often type of light measure - reflected. Not much more than that except to understand how the equipment works before you take it out for real critical work.

Strengths:

Legible and logical controls. Powerful light SBC collector cell. Uses D type battery (you can test it with your tongue or by the internal Bat check switch). EV meter calibration. F stops from 0.7 to 128 Shutter speed reading from 4K to 8 Hours + or - needle reading for +-3 stops

Weaknesses:

one needs to learn to use all instrumentation to lessen human error. this thing does a lot of read-outs so read up before heading out.

Similar Products Used:

In camera meters and sunny 16

Customer Service:

none needed
