from Sydney Australia Summary: This meter is marketed as the Variosix - F outside USA.
This is a review of the Mark 1 version which I have used for ten years in many different situations. Strengths: Extremely consistent, accurate and reliable in daylight or flashlight or a combination.
Quite rugged, has been on many hiking expeditions in my backpack.
Gives ccurate results with the 5 degree attachment, which I hardly ever use. It is easier to simply bring the meter up close to a subject element with the required brightness.
The readout is very clear and ergonomics are excellent.
The sensor has a sharp cutoff, so is not misled by light outside the metering zone.
Exposure compensation for filters can be measured by the meter itself, then set in the memory, a very convenient function. Weaknesses: The mark 1 version of this meter is excessively sensitive to infrared light. I do not know if the mark 2 version is the same.
The excess IR sensitivity means readings are inaccurate in incandescent lighting. Also readings of green grass can be in error for the same reason.
There is a non linear and therefore inaccurate response at low light levels, below EV4. Similar Products Used: Gossen Sixtino 2 Customer Service: Not used
