Strength:

First off - I bought this for my Tamron 18-400 Canon EF mount lens. It fits perfectly and the lens rubber does not contact the teleconverter glass. There is notable loss of quality under 100mm (on the lens), though this is known to be an issue and specifically documented by tamron themselves. This is designed for lenses above 90mm, so this makes sense. Quality above 100mm is great, autofocus works on all my camera bodies (70d, M50/EOS M with adapter). I wouldn’t even know it was there looking at the photos. It adds some bokeh at the long end, but loses a full stop of light, not a terrible trade-off. Overall, don’t expect miracles, this is made for a specific purpose, it isn’t a magnifying glass for all your lenses, just telephotos, and mostly just tamrons.

Strength:

Optical quality good. Purchased to go with Nikkor AF 180mm f/2.8 D IF-ED. No vignetting.

Weakness:

When used with Nikon F80, exposure is over by 1 full stop. TC is not sending the correct aperture info. Tamron acknowledges this limitation in the guide with the product.

Nice optical quality but incorrect exposure info.

Strength:

optically very good

Weakness:

bit pricy considering what it is

i got my as a gift from my girlfriend who prefers that i am busy with photography than other women. i actually wanted the kenko pro300 1.4x as i am using it with tokina 100-300/f4 but many website claims that the tamron is from the same OEM. however, if you visit the individual web of tamron and kenko you will realise that the technical specs. i.e. the number of elemnets are different. Optically it has been great. if AF very well( even with tamron 24-135 at 5.6 on a bright day)and quick. i have shot some slides setting the tokina at 200mm w/o convertor and then with convertor while maintaining image size. w 10x peak loupe, i started picking fault with the convertor but seriously cant tell them apart. good news. i also took clear sky shots to chek for vignetting and found no dark corners.great lens considering it gives me 420/5.6 with a little more wt only. also done macro at 100 setting with 50 mm extension and the convertor( yea call me crazy but it works!) you get a super macro lens that goes down to 1:1 and a420/5.6 lens what else you want?

Strength:

Small and well made.

Weakness:

See comments above about regarding use with Nikon silent motor lenses.

I use this on the Nikon D1 digital and the F5 film cameras. It works well with my 300-2.8. EDIF-AF lens. However it will not work on my 80/200-2.8 or 300-2.8 ''S'' lenses. The ''S'' lenses try to focus using the Tamron SP, but they cant find focus. If you use the Nikon Silent Motor lenses, buy a Nikon e series, it works!

Strength:

Retains auto focus functions, Tack sharp and well made. Quick and easy to put on and take off.

Weakness:

None

I use this teleconverter with a EOS 3 and a Canon 100-400 IS, 4.5-5.6 lens, it has worked very well. It limits the autofocus to just one center element, but that is not a disadvantage with the type on photos I am taking. I would recommend this teleconverter!
