Review 1 of 12

Price Paid:  $1700.00 from local camerashop

Summary:

I bought the body and 50mm lens kit about a year ago and I have been very satisfied with the whole thing.
The quality of the 50mm Hexanon is great and the portability of the lensis also great.
I can have it mounted on Bessa-r or on my m6 and everytime I have great results.
No regrets just happy smiles.
It's my everyday kit along with 35mm hexanon which is also outstanding.
All of the tri-x b&w photographs that I took at all kinds of situations came out very satisfactory.
Rain or shine, day or night, it's always on my camera.

Strengths:

The contrast and out of focus area.
They are very pretty :)
Also over all perfomance at all time.
Very sturdly made and heavy enough to feel solid.
The focus is also very smooth and the apature rings are silky.

Review 2 of 12

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

Ever wanted to own a Leica system but couldn't justify the expense? Here's your chance with the Hexar RF and its' lenses. Having owned prior to this a Leica M6 outfit that included the current 50/2 Summicron with built-in hood I have to say this 50/2 Hexanon is fully the equal on all fronts. Build quality is exquisite-quite simply as good as it gets, which is to say fully the equal of the Summicron. Optically sharp, sharp, sharp. Even the mechanical "feel" is impressive. F-stops at full and half-stops and are very positive & smooth. Focus is buttery smooth and very pleasant to use. I hope you get the picture here! The body Hexar RF body itself is quite different from the M6 in use (but just as fun!), but the Hexanon lenses compare absolutely to the Leica equals. If you had one of each and had to identify them with your eyes closed you'd probably guess wrong half the time.

Strengths:

Build quality, optical quality

Weaknesses:

The Konica name alone will guarantee a large loss in value compared to buying the Leica brand if you buy new, which I did. That is the only weakness. Buy a mint example used and you'll come out WAY ahead.

Leica M

Customer Service:

Bought the extra warranty service, meaning my outfit is guaranteed for 5 years. Have not needed yet and don't anticipate the need with the lenses.

Review 3 of 12

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Camera Traders NYC

Summary:

About the only thing humble about this lens is the focal length. Then again, the 50mm lens is rather underrated in its usefulness. Wonderful.

Strengths:

Lifelike palpability in sharpness and contrast, subtly rendered out-of-focus highlights (you know, the "b" word). Mechanical feel and build quality is on a par with the other M-Hexanons, which is to say it's up there with the very, very best.

Weaknesses:

None.

Similar Products Used:

Leica 40mm f/2

Customer Service:

None needed.

Review 4 of 12

Price Paid:  $225.00 from used

Summary:

An excellent allround rangefinder lens that delivers outstanding quality to and an unsurpassed value.

Strengths:

Very sharp, nice tonality, great bokeh and most of all a fantastic value. I cannot see the difference in terms of output between this lens and the Summicron 50/2 I used to have at 2-3 times the price. Easy and fast to focus. I bought this lens to use on my Leica M6TTL and so far I have encountered no problems whatsoever.

Weaknesses:

The built in hood is pretty weak. It is larger than a Summicron 50/2 but by no means big.

Similar Products Used:

Leica Summicron 50/2

Customer Service:

Not used for this lens. I've dealt with Konica Service for a Hexar AF I used to have and they were very responsive.

Review 5 of 12

Price Paid:  $0.00 from New York

Summary:

The Konica Hexanon 50/2 is certainly one of the great optics of all time. Loosely based on the Summicron lens design, the build and quality are indistinguishable from the equivalent expensive German product.

Strengths:

Just sharp as anything. The perect M-mount 50.

Weaknesses:

Built-in lens hood is a bit useless. Konica would have been better off including a vented 40.5mm hood that would not block the rangefinder.

Customer Service:
