Review 1 of 7

Price Paid:  $86.00 from ebay

Summary:

I bought this lens last year just to get something in the 28mm range. I just used it for a couple of indoor snap shots and then forgot about it. Recently I shot a roll of film outdoors with this lens...what a surprise...very sharp pictures, great color rendition and pretty good contrast. I did get a little bit of flare on one shot but overall this lens performs very well for the price.

Strengths:

Not expensive. Plastic but sturdy. Fairly fast. Smooth focusing. Light weight.

Weaknesses:

Not as good as the Nikkor 28mm lens.

Similar Products Used:

A number of Nikkor and Nikon Series E lenses.

Customer Service:

Not required.

Review 2 of 7

Price Paid:  $50.00 from photoshop cph

Summary:

Many many years ago i used this lens much as i didnt had any money at all, this is a reasonable lens and i find it ok value for money.I also tried the E35 mm 2,5 which according to my experience is slightly better, but i yiu need a manual type go for the 28 mm 2,8..which is outstanding! if youre a beginner or on a budget try this E type, which is often overseen and misregarded unfortunately. Happy newyear !go and make photos!its not always the gear its You who create the pic!

Strengths:

nothing very remarkble but better build than the new made in china AF stuff you see nowadays.

Weaknesses:

Built (compared to nikkors) Coating on the E series a little loose

Similar Products Used:

much for both canon nikon and other brands

Customer Service:

none

Review 3 of 7

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

My dad, who was John Denver's photographer, had this lens with his old Nikon F2. I shot most of my photos through this lens before I got my own Nikon in 2001. This was a great all-around lens.

Strengths:

•Close Focusing to 1 foot • f/2.8 •Sharp images •Build quality

Weaknesses:

Can't use it on my new Nikon (which has an AF metering ring)

Similar Products Used:

28mm f/3.5 (same generation)

Review 5 of 7

Summary:

I owned the E series 28/2.8, and disliked it. I sold it in 1982 in favor of the 28/2.8 Nikkor, that features CRC, which is just about the sharpest wide angle lens available. What's the problem with the E lenses? Aside from perhaps the tele-zoom that was made, the lens coatings was the place Nikkor saved major $$$, to the detriment of image quality. I could live with the plastic construction; the low contrast was just too much to deal with. I suppose if you were on a steady diet of E lenses, this would not really be noticable, but if you had any Nikkors, and you were used to Nikkor snap, the E series was bound to be a let down, with the possible exception of someone who owned a 43-86 Nikkor zoom, which was generally a dog of a lens.

By the way, the EM and the EL were not even remotely similar or part of the same line (see prior post that suggested otherwise).

Strengths:

Inexpensive

Weaknesses:

Betrays its inexpensiveness
