Review 1 of 17

Price Paid:  $299.00 from Cametaauctions

Summary:

Purchased the Sigma 15/2.8 Fisheye for my Nikon N90s, F3HP and D50 and all I have to say is this lens is outstanding. It's very sharp and quite resistant to flair. It's small and compact and manual focus is superb. Well worth the price.

Strengths:

(1) Small and quite sharp
(2) Excellent build quality
(3) Fast quiet AF
(4) Nice manual focus feel
(5) Inexpensive compared to its Nikon counter part

Weaknesses:

Gel filters

Summary:

a small and lightweight lens. i use it as solution as ultra wide angle lens with 1.5-crop DSLR. i correct the distortion with the ptlens plugin - works very well and You can get outstanding photographs like a 18 mm wide angle on a film SLR. Worth the money and Highly recommended!

Strengths:

build quality very sharp even wide open, excellent corner to corner stopped down very good flare control very low Chromatic aberrations price

Weaknesses:

slow manual focus, i use it mainly with manual focus at 1 m - and its all sharp from 0,5 m to infinitely lens cover leaves some abrasion on the lens hood

Review 3 of 17

Price Paid:  $420.00 from Ebay.Ca

Summary:

I've had this lens for about a month, purchased new for $420 Cdn, and am so impressed I must contribute my two cents. This lens is sharp, and yields terrific images. It has a close focus range. And on a Nikon D70, with the 1.5 crop, you get comfortable distortion-a fisheye that isn't outrageous, making it very usable for news photography, while giving you enough room for close-up play. The build is great, though without the cap and cover (which are also very good and metal), you have to be careful not to touch the glass as you can't use screw-on filters. You can use one on the hood and leave it on, but then you have to deal with the black-corners from vignetting in photoshop (I prefer images untouched, straight from the camera). The build is very nice, solid and not cheap. AF speed isn't super fast, but quick enough for anything you'd use such a lens for. Oh yes, and compared to Nikon's 16mm, 14mm or 10mm, this one is cheap dollar-wise. Honestly, I have read a lot of bad things about Sigma lenses, about bad copies and whatnot. And though this lens, typically gets good reviews, I was very apprehensive. I now understand why it's so well regarded-it's a greatlens and a great investment. I love it!

Strengths:

images-brilliant! close focus build price (compared to similar alternatives)

Weaknesses:

exposed lens-be conscious of how close you get to your subject(s) AF-not a serious complaint. But hey, nothing is perfect.

Similar Products Used:

My other widest lens is a Nikon 18-70mm. But this isn't very similar. Other lenses include: Nikon 28-200 G Tamron 80-200 D AF-PRO Nikon 24-85 G (returned -DUSTY, but good) Nikon 70-300 G (sold) Nikon 70-300 D (sold) Nikon 75-300 (borrowed) Nikon 24-120 G VR (returned) Nikon 28-105 D (sold - great on 35mm though) Nikon 28-100 G (sold)

Customer Service:

none as of yet. keeping fingers crossed.

Review 4 of 17

Price Paid:  $529.00 from euro

Summary:

An amazing piece of glass. It is sharp from corner to corner at F2.8! (and I mean sharp as in sharp, not the result of high DOF) Distortion can easily be corrected with free defish Panotools plug-in for Photoshop, this makes it a fun, usable, lightweight and sturdy, multipurpose lens.

Strengths:

sharpness 2.8 aperture very usable oh and did I tell it is sharp?

Weaknesses:

no HSM, loud focussystem (like being at the dentist) slow focus, hunting sometimes vulnerable at the front, no filter protection, altough with a 10D you can leave the hood on, gives only slight vignetting that you would cut out with de-fishing anyway

Review 5 of 17

Price Paid:  $435.00

Summary:

Great lens for abstract work and simply having fun. I can't get enough of the funky things you can do with this lens. Complements my 17-35 wide very nicely, and it's a great lens to have in your case for the odd situation that pops up and demands something different.

Strengths:

Always sharp, built extremely well

Weaknesses:

none that I can think of
