AF 100-400mm f/4.5-6.7 APO Maxxum Summary: Very capable lens; just tug along a tripod, and you won't be disappointed. Strengths: Excellent optics, traditional superb Minolta quality.
Weaknesses: Big and heavy, should have come equipped with a tripod mount.
In fact, the lens grouping is so heavy, that in order to facilitate zooming, I hold it up vertically to retract, and down vertically to extend.
No, this may not be the heaviest lens out there, but anyone familiar with weight and balance issues, knows that moment-arm and center of gravity, are of equal importance. I cannot fathom using this lens without a tripod.
