Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $230.00 from Nikon Dealer

Summary:

I get to know a lens, zoom or prime, after about a few thousand images through it. After about 3k's of shooting, this lens has come on to be a favourite companion for urban and candid shooting. The first thing that stands out is how crisp and punchy the images turn out, even when the aperture is fully opened. Ther colour, rendering, and fringes are very pleasant, like a high end expensive lens. But this lens isn't! This lens could be the bargain of the year, or the decade. It is so low priced, you can break one a get a new one the next day, no hassles, even to the pocket.

Strengths:

The images produced are almost as convincing as a higher end expensive lens.
Small for a powerfull zoom.
Lightweight and stealth friendly.
My favourite for urban journalism.
VR lets me shoot in low light like never before!
Bargain cost.

Weaknesses:

Plastic mount.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $150.00 from amazon

Summary:

This is a review of the latest updated VR version of this lense. At first I was a bit weary about purchasing a lense that was such a bargain...Read on.

I did my homework, after reading over 100 user reviews on amazon..I took the leap.My first impression was mixed, but as I experimented I found this lense can, will produce great images.Metering,AF, distortion are excellent for a lense in this "bargan" price range.
If your looking for a great walk-about zoom that won't break the bank this is a winner. :O)

This lense has some serious limitations as well. Image quality greatly suffers at anything over 125 mm, since I already have a great Nikkor 70-210D, a Tokina 75-300... That range wasn't a deal breaker for me.

I recommend this lense for a outdoor photographer on a budget.

Strengths:

TACK SHARP ---> from 55-125mm
Ultra light weight,compact
Nikkor quality build
ED glass
VR mode works excellent
Auto focus motor is fast, accurate
Contrasty
Lense hood is included
55mm filter mount
Good Zoom ring grip

Weaknesses:

SOFT from 125mm to 200mm
Bright avail. light work only...it's slow
