Review 1 of 14

Price Paid:  $70.00 from Ebay

Summary:

I love this lens. its very easy to work with due to its comfortable size, weight and feel. Even though its plastic its got a nice well damped action. Its contrasty at all f stops and is virtually flare proof.

I've run tests against my nikon 35/2.0 and 50/1.8 lenses and I'm just pleased at how well it performs. With the small sensor digital you get the sweet spot of the lens and frankly its sharp just about wide open. This is one zoom you don't have to close down to f/8 to get decent performance. Its a little distorted at the 28mm end but that clear up quickly.

Strengths:

52mm filters
Sharp, contrasty.
Great size and weight.
Did I mention the 52mm filters? I've built a excellent selection of lenses that all use 52mm filters often going into AIS lenses. You get a quality and convenience you just can't match in the more recent lenses at about 20 cents on the dollar.
Very useful macro too.

Weaknesses:

28mm is a bit tight on the wide end but I'm using this for people photography.
AF isn't AFS but its not really any worse than my 50mm prime.

Review 3 of 14

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:

It''''s a good little zoom, in fact it''''s my second one I had . Sharpness is very good from 5.6 to 11 .I had once, vignetting at 28 mm, but I replace my big BW filter by a thing Nikon one, shoot at 5.6 and plus and bye bye vignetting...For the distortion, may be I been lucky , because after hundred pictures of landscape with or without filters, never find a problem there....

Strengths:

Good for travel because it''''s small and light.cheap filter size (52),good picture quality around F8

Weaknesses:

Small zoom range...I would like something like 28-85 or 105 ...But after the reviews I read on the 28-105 I thing I will stick with this little fellow for awhile, until Nikon arrive with a 28-105 ED zoom...Low distortion or aspherical lens .
