from Bergen County Camera Summary: The Sigma 300 - 800mm zoom lens is nice in it's own right, but when you compare the options and the prices of those options; the Sigma lens takes on an even more superlative quality.
It isn't cheap, but millimeter for millimeter it is roughly 3 times less expensive than a 600mm Nikon f4.
When I went to pick it up at BCC, the store was packed. When we uncrated it to check how it fared through shipping and to test it, everyone stopped to look at it and ask about it. Strengths: Silent, fast focusing. I've noticed little in the way of "hunting". Compared to the Nikon 80 - 400mm VR lens, it doesn't "hunt" at all.
Smooth, convenient zooming. Find your target at 300mm and shoot it at 800mm.
Beautiful clarity and contrast. Weaknesses: Heavy. Stable when properly mounted or propped, but very unwieldy otherwise. Long too. No hard case included. It comes in a nice soft, padded carrying case. A hard case would have been better. Similar Products Used: All Nikon lenses up to this point. Customer Service: No experience yet. BCC is great. Don't know about Sigma. Hope to never find out.
