Price Paid:  $200.00 from www.artwork.hu

Summary:

I've used this lens on D70 and F80 body. It's a fast and light lens in own price range. Ideal and practical for a journey or a trip. I like this lens!

Strengths:

+ cheap + light + fast

Weaknesses:

- flares

Review 2 of 12

Price Paid:  $220.00 from Adorama

Summary:

I purchased the Nikon version from adorama and used it for some outdoor as well as indoor shoots on Nikon F65. It definitely focuses faster and works better than a nikon G in low light conditions. Built quality is good though the rear part of the lens is plastic coloured in silver (which i have no problem with as long as it works well). The Prints turn out pretty sharp and contrast is good using Fuji Superia 200. Perhaps i could write more when i get to try it out using other firms (prob a ISO 100 and 400). Did some closeups (not macro of course) as well as portraits which turned out very good.

Strengths:

wide angle at 24mm is really useful for landscapes and corner sharpness is fine. Focuses fast on a Nikon. build quality is better than a Nikon G and similar to a Nikon D, except the rear. Comes with a hood useful for shielding against flare.

Weaknesses:

short zoom range, but it's good price! the hood will hinder mounted flash if subject is too close. Use flash connector or remove hood for such shooting.

Review 3 of 12

Price Paid:  $130.00

Summary:

Strengths:

Prezzo Peso Paraluce Messa a fuoco interna La parte anteriore non ruota

Weaknesses:

Costruzione economica Distorsioni Nitidezza Contrasto Rumorosità Diaframma a 8 lame Difficoltà a focheggiare con poca luce Lento Inusabile a 24mm e/o a F3.5 Svalutazione dell'usato

Review 4 of 12

Price Paid:  $0.00 from Cameta camera

Summary:

I bougth this lens along with the SD9 camera and thougt this might be an ok performer. Either my unit was not so good or this lens is not so good. Compared it with the Sigma 28-80mm HF F3,5-5,6 and the 28-80 which is less expensive was alot better with better contrast and more sharpness. I would not recomend this lens as a first buy. Go rather for the 28-80 if your on a budget and save for a prime lens or the Sigma 20-40 F2,8 (or the 28-70 F2,8, which has better performance than the 24-70 (F2,8)

Strengths:

Cheap build ok

Weaknesses:

Sharpness and contrast should be better compared to the cheaper 28-80 F3,5-5,6 HF.

Review 5 of 12

Price Paid:  $89.00 from B and H

Summary:

An exceptional lens, recommended to anyone who's contemplated buying the equivalent Nikon. This Sigma is wider (24mm) and produces better results throughout the zoom range. At 24 and 50 it beat the Nikons easily, the latter catching up only at 70mm. Corners are sharp and clear across zoom range. Perfect short zoom for Nikon N80, fully compatible with Nikon's D system. The ranks below are given relative to other lenses in its own category: short zooms around $100. I also recommend the Sigma 70-300mm II Super Macro as the complementary long zoom.

Strengths:

* cheap * HF (hellical focus, front does not move during focusing) * smooth zoom * rugged * metallic mount

Weaknesses:

The only possible weakness is of course the speed, f 3.5. However, I haven't seen a faster lens for the same price.

Nikon 28-80mm G Nikon 28-100mm G Nikon N80 Nikon N65
