Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $400.00 from from friend

Summary:

This is one of my favorite lenses that I own for my Nikon D70. I have read TONS of reviews on this lens before begging my friend that owned it to sell it to me for $400. I bought it for a wedding I was shooting and the pictures came out spectacular. My only regret was that my wrist hurt by the end of the shoot (over 4 hours) due to the weight of the lens. I will try to post some pictures so people can see the quality of the images. If you have the cash to spend on this one you wont regret it.

Strengths:

Everything. Good zoom range and super crisp images.

Weaknesses:

Weight. I can almost cancem my gympass and use this 3 times a week its so heavy. If you plan on using this lens for long periods of time I'd start doing wrist curls at the gym.

Similar Products Used:

Everything under the sun from Nikon (Nikkor) Tamron, Sigma, Phoenix, and Quantaray

Customer Service:

Have not had to use it.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $600.00 from Camera Show

Summary:

I've used it several years on my film Nikons, recently on my Nikon D70, and love it. I believe the variance in quality some have reported may be due to looseness in the focusing mount, something I have fixed in my lens.

Strengths:

Beautiful image quality, contrast, and that constant f/2.8 aperture.

Weaknesses:

Focusing mount was a bit loose when I got it, got looser until I had to take it in for repair. There was noticeable viewfinder-visible image deterioration, just wiggling the front of the lens side to side.

Similar Products Used:

Tokina 19-35mm, Nikon 80-200 f/2.8.

Customer Service:

I used Advance Camera Repair in Beaverton, Oregon, a highly competent facility. My warranty might still be in effect, but I trust Dave at Advance.
