Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $10.00 from used

Summary:
A neutral density filter should be neutral. I used a Tiffen .9 ND this past weekend. I used Velvia film. There was a definite yellow/rust brownish hue on the pictures.

Strengths:
none

Weaknesses:
not neutral

Similar Products Used:
I will go back to using Heliopan filters.

Customer Service:
I have not contacted customer service yet.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $40.00 from Adorama

Summary:
Filter itself is average, customer service is the worst.

Strengths:
Normal

Weaknesses:
Plastic ring. Bad construction and thick.

Similar Products Used:
B&W .6 ND
B&W .6 Graduated ND

Customer Service:
Bad! Send them a filter for replacement. Cann't get it back after one month. Called them and they said it is out of stock and just got in. They promised to send in 2-3 days. A month past, I am still waiting. Called them of course, they always replied: it is out of stock(for ever).
Could you call this "customer service". The worst I've ever seen!!

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $60.00 from Amazon.com

Summary:
The worst constructed filter I've seen in my life time. Extremely thick. Its light weight makes me doulbt if it is really made from glass. The mount ring can move sidewards for about 1mm apart from the glass ring. It's already full of dust between the glass ring and the mounting ring(which is a piece of plastic, wow! for a $60.00 filter)before I took it out from the shipping box, which make rotating a painful feeling. Avoid any rotation needed filter made by Tiffen!!!!!! Perhaps, any filter from Tiffen. Go B+W or Helipon, they won't cost you much more but you'll see what a truely beautiful filter should look like.

Strengths:
Still a Neutral density(Mine is a graduated ND in 77mm really)

Weaknesses:
Loose ring, really thick, can easily get dust in and make rotating a pain.

Similar Products Used:
B+W ND Slim, Helipon Plolarizer

Customer Service:
Perhaps never anymore

Review 4 of 4

Summary:
I've downrated this filter severely because I feel that a neutral-density filter should be exactly that: NEUTRAL. The Tiffen NDs (I only have two, which I seldom use) are not dead-on neutral, giving a slightly cool color cast. Of course, you can always warm them up a bit with a filter, or use film with a slightly warmer bias. If you go the filter route, I'd suggest starting with something like a 1A/B skylight before proceeding to the 81-series - just my thought. Tiffen generally makes good "user" filters. They're rugged and you can depend on them for consistency.

Strengths:
Exposure factor is right on (that shouldn't be a "strength," but I've seen a couple off-brand ND filters that were between 1/3 and 1/2 sstop off).

Weaknesses:
Not really neutral. A neutral density filter should reduce the overall amount of light hitting the film without affecting color frequency. The two Tiffens I've used, while giving accurate exposures, seem somewhat blue to me (and no, it wasn't reciprocity failure).

Similar Products Used:
None. I generally use a polarizer to accomplish the same thing.

Customer Service:
Not needed.
