Price Paid:  $475.00 from 17th Street Photo

Summary:

I was stunned when I first saw this lens. The price is amazing for what you get. Comparable lenses on other systems might be thousands of dollars. In short, this is a super telephoto lens for the E series Olympus digital camera line. It is not a screw-in system. It attaches to the lens via a pair of fixtures to the camera body. A rubber appendage snugly covers the camera lens and allows the telephoto lens to work. In the E series, you must remember to select the flashing lens icon in the lens selection menu for this to properly focus. I used this lens in a recent trip to Glacier National park. I was able to get pictures of far off Jackson Glacier with this lens. There is a small but noticable amount of image degradation, but it is acceptable. Now, this lens is something like 300mm focal length. Adding the TCON14B 1.45x teleconverter to this lens with a 49-62mm step up ring creates a super - super telephoto lens of some 600mm focal length. Some call this the BIG MAMA. Using this beast I was able to see rock formations and ice on Jackson Glacier that only mountain climbers would see after hours of toil. This lens is not for the casual point-and-shoot crowd for sure, but you can surely impress your friends with the pictures this lens can deliver. You'll need a good tripod for this set up. You'll attract attention with this lens whether you want it or not.

Strengths:

Extreme telephoto possible here. Really impressive looking. Cool blue finish on the lens!

Weaknesses:

Heavy. A little cumbersome to attach properly in the field. Needs a sturdy tripod, as expected. Like any expensive looking equipment, the criminal class may be attracted. This isn't the len's fault though.

No other lens comes close to this.

Customer Service:

Not used. No need.
