Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $40.00 from ebay

Summary:

As for creating IR images this filter does a fine job. Blocking visible light shorter than 720nm makes it useable on all near infrared / infrared films. I have used it on Kodak, Maco, and Ilford films. The images came out nice after taking the time to bracket.
I found the construction somewhat lacking though. The glass was not seated tight in the ring, it would move around sometimes. Plus it was almost impossible to clean. Streaks would not go away. Perhaps because I got it from an overseaes wholesaler. I will buy domestic next time.

Strengths:

Nice IR effects
Cheaper than other brands

Weaknesses:

Construction is somewhat dodgey.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $80.00 from B&H

Summary:

Very dark red filter. Passes light only 720nm and longer, making this filter not quite a pure infrared filter, but a 'near infrared' filter. Filter quality is acceptable. No apparent coatings on the glass. Quite hard to clean. Dust and fingerprints stick to it. I recommend that you use this filter on a fast lens, otherwise, you won't be able to see through it and compose your shot. I'm using it for digital infrared, and it's ideal for that application. The mount has smooth threads and I haven't had any problems with it binding on the lenses.

Strengths:

Blocks just enough visible light to make this a unique filter for experimenting with the infrared end of photography.

Weaknesses:

Glass seems to be devoid of any coatings or protection.
