Strength:

Weakness:

Not a single one.

This is one of the sharpest lense I have ever used, comparable to the 120 mm Zeiss lense which I also have. After I switch from 35 mm zooms to 645 primes, this lense is on my Contax 645 most of the time, for portrait and landscape. Very very sharp, fast aperture, with excellent color and contrast.

Strength:

Excellent build quality. Sharpest lens arround. Nice contrast and color rendition. Fast lens (f2) Quick AF speed. Most lenses share the same 72mm filters. Very nice pro bellow lens hood (GB-B1) works with all 72mm filter lenses.

Weakness:

No half aperture stop.

One of the best lens money can buy.

What a great lens. Sharp and the contrast is 2nd to none. The extra stop (F2) is great and makes for a very bright viewfinder. Smooth to manually focus.

Strength:

Excellent sharpness and colour reproduction

Weakness:

give extra $$ for lens hood

Very good in optics. Except 35mmF3.5 lens, all other Contax AF lens have 72mm filter size, very convenient.

Model Reviewed: Carl Zeiss T* Planar 80mm f2 IF (645)

Strength:

fast lens; extremely high saturation and contrast; extremely high resolution; free of distortion; very high image quality wide open;
excellent bayonet hood;

Weakness:

DOF scale is imprecise like most AF lenses

The image quality of this lens is as good as I have seen in medium format!! Saturation is noticeably higher than Pentax SMC FA75/2.8 or A120/4. Contrast is also higher. Asahi Camera Magazine of Japan has drawn the same conclusion. AF is about as fast as Pentax' but quieter.

Compared to Hasselblad's equivalent offerings this lens has modestly better corner sharpness and illumination (esp. at wide open), perhaps due to the smaller image circle.

To my knowledge this is the fastest std lens in medium format.
