Strength:

* Excellent skin tones * No visible grain * Looks fantastic on Crystal Archive paper

Weakness:

I don't know. So far, so good.

I finally got around to shooting some rolls of NPS. I am still trying to figure why it took me so long to begin using such a fantastic film. At $2.69 a roll at B&H, you can't be the price. As for quality, let me just say that I was blown away by the results. I borrowed my friends 3 strobe SP Studio Systems kit and shot some pics of my nieces. The results were absolutely impressive. Excellent, excellent skin tones. No visible grain and marvelous on Crystal Archive paper. Can you tell I liked the film? My family members were also floored by the pictures. A truly awesome film.

Strength:

realistic colors hides skin flaws well sharp for 35mm print film

Weakness:

a little pricey compared to standard film, but I get a discount cuz I work at Ritz Camera

This film is by far the best portrait film I've used. I've bought it in bulk, rolled it myself and also bought individual rolls and both performed outstandingly well. Colors aren't overly saturated and contrast is lower, as well they should be for typical portrait film. It's also sharp for print film which helps with enlargements.

Strength:

Extremely fine grain (RMS=4.0 ISO 160) Not expensive (vs. Kodak) Beautiful skin tones and nature colors. Will show your lenses' strengths (and weaknesses) across with a punch.

Weakness:

Within widely-available C41 films, none.

I wish I had all the technical specs with me as I write this, but I can tell you with certainty that this is one of the finest grain films you can purchase. I used to swear by Kodak film, until one day I happened to borrow a roll for an emergency (ran out, of course). I compared the same day's shots with those I took with Kodak Portra 100, and have since then avoided Kodak film like the plague. It seems they (K) are so ashamed of their film, that they (K) won't release film grain measurements (or at least have made it very hard to find), and instead use their own hypersubjective grain scale, which you can't use to compare to other manufacturer's results. This film's RMS is 4.0 (ASA/ISO 160), but the lines/mm resolution will blow you away (again, don't have the exact figures). It is great with skin tones, and nature/landscape photography comes out so beautifully, I shoot almost exclusively with this and Provia 100, another great (slide) film. I've tried this in both 35mm and 120 flavors (I have a Canon EOS and Hasselblad 500 set), and they perform the same. I cannot compare the versatility of this film with another. This film is so versatile, it is the film that gives me the least (i.e. hardly any) headaches color-balancing my Epson 2450 photo scans.

Strength:

- Fine Grain - Great on Skin Tones

Weakness:

- Not readily available unless you live near a "pro" camera shop. - Price is a little steep!

This is the best portrait film bar none. Gives great results on skin tones it's ability to soften winkles and imperfections makes it ideally suited for portrait work. If it is important people shots you need, go no further than this film!

Weakness:

can't see a whole lot to complain about

Excellent film. Slightly smooth tones and a bit softer than a slide film of equal speed - This would make it very desirable for portraits or with lenses that are a bit on the sharp side (L-glass) It will hide a subject's hideous skin texture a bit better. The resolution is great for this speed of film. I have used it for people and interiors...great for both and works well in multi-color temperature areas.

Strength:

Shooting latinos skin tones can be a big challenge, Fuji NPS160 show what colors we are made of..and we are gorgeuos when look from the Fuji NPS160 perspective

Weakness:

What?

As someone coming fromm 135mm to 120 and not having previous experience with all that you can see with a true good quality glass, I was shock to see how incredibly good the weding photos came out. Geting pay to do what I love and having a film like Fuji NPS160 to make my job and my life easier, as I get my bearings on the world of 120, is a blesing beyond words.

Strength:

Shooting people, street scenes in the shade.

Weakness:

Wide open landscapes.

Very smooth film. Bought 20 rolls of this and 20 of the Fuji HPH and went to France. The people shot with this just look so great. I enlarged several prints to 10x12 and 11x14/16 and the details are just terrific and virtually no grain. Shots of wide open landscapes are a little washed out but anything close came out just fine. Also used this for family shots during the holidays and all came out really well. This just makes people look good!

Strength:

Beautiful skin tones but not a film for all occasions. When you want to make people look good, this is an excellent choice. The subtle variations in skin tone remind me of a fine B&W photograph.

Weakness:

Overall contrast is low. Pictures do not have punch of a Reala.

When I got the proofs back I was initially disappointed. The contrast was much lower than I had expected, having a lot of experience using Kodak Royal Gold and Fuji format. Once I made some 8x12 enlargements my initial displeasure changed. This is really a nice film for pictures of peoples faces, skintones are accurately rendered, grain is nice and the overall effect is very pleasing. I would recommend against using this camera for nature/landscape work, but for people it is A1.
