Price Paid:  $182.00 from OFFICE DEPOT

Model Reviewed:
Canon S820D

Summary:

After deciding on the S820, I scoured my local area but to no avail. Then, all of a sudden I found the S820D gathering dust on an Office Depot shelf. I simply couldn't resist the allure of the $169 price tag and bought the wee beauty. This piece of kit produces exquisite photographs either direct from the compactflash card or via the computer. It even manages to blow up 8x10 images from a canon A10 straight from the card. However, for the camera connectivity function to work, you must have a G2, S40 or S30. SO far, the ink usage has been miniscule, and I've been printing all manner of rubbish aswell as having to originally perform several cleaning cycles in order to unblock the black cartridge. But what does that matter when you can buy a generic 12 pack for $19.00? And, as everyone else points out, Canon photo paper pro produces splendid results. If you want to save money buy in bulk on ebay or something, but don't moan when your Dollar General all-purpose paper looks a tad soggy. Would you buy cheap film and then blame the camera? With regards to printing text, the S820D does the job adequately well but we're talking photo printer here and at that task this printer simply excels. Go on, buy one(or the s820 or s900), it'll even impress the wife. In conclusion, two words: BUY IT!

Strengths:

Photo quality Ink usage Software

Weaknesses:

I'll have to go out and buy a G2.

Similar Products Used:

None, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about!

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $300.00

Model Reviewed:
Canon BJ Printer 820D

Summary:

Purchased this printer after seeing a demo and hoping that its multiple ink cartridges would save some money as opposed to the single tri-color cartridges of other brands. The printer was easy to set up and get going. Printing with other than Canon Papers (Kodak Ultima or HP Photo Plus) produces photos that are off color and speckled. Text printing is less than desireable in that it is fuzzy -not crisp and if the text is in a photo it also is fuzzy. The photo quality comparisons were done by hooking up two printers to the same computer and printing the same picture on each. The Canon came out on the short end in quality. Returned the printer for refund and am back using my old one.

Strengths:

Ease of hook-up. Ability to print directly from flash card with out using the computer. Multiple color ink cartridges.

Weaknesses:

Text quality is poor. Limited to Canon Papers only although others will work the quality is off. Noisy.

Similar Products Used:

Hp Desk Jet Printers especially the 952C

Strengths:

One button print feature, easy interface for imputing FlashCard, menu features are very user friendly, optional LCD screen makes image selection easier.Ink tanks are individual separate units. 4 X 6 prints produced in minutes.
