Summary:

This printer has been nothing but great. I've never owned a "photo" printer before, so it may be weak compared to others. Using my fujifilm 1.3mp digi cam, it prints out pictures that rival that of the average 35mm. 8x10's print great, wallets print even better. It's a strange feeling being completely satisfied with a purchase. Also, printer was referbished by Canon, so buying it from ebay was nothing short of a steal.

Strengths:

Media card reader, printing direct from camera, seperate ink cartridges.

Weaknesses:

Black smudges some times, making the prints horrible. this is easily fixed w/ a 2 minute print head cleaning.

Summary:

Fantastic. List price in dabs.com was £175.07 and I got this ex display printer from the local out of town store for £80, with all the bits it should have. Fresh out of the box it worked great. Brilliant pictures after a little fiddling with the preferences (but I would expect that anyway). Canon's got all the right features in this:- Super quick print speed. Clear plastic single inktanks with optical ink sensing which save money and allow you to actually see the ink going down. After reading about Epsons and HP's I decided that single ink tanks was the way to go and Canon was the only one that offered that. the user serviceable printhead is a bonus too.

Strengths:

Single ink tanks with optical ink sensing Print speed Print quality

Weaknesses:

Too many features (didn't need the PCMCIA socket and camera connection) for the 80 quid it's churlish to moan.

Summary:

I went to Best Buy to purchase the Canon i850, but they where sold out. The Canon Rep was there and said that there was no noticeable difference in the print quality to the naked eye. She printed the same picture from both printers and there was no real discernable difference between the two. She said that the only way to tell them apart was with a magnifying glass. I purchased the S530D and have not been happier with a printer in a long time. The speed of the prints has got to be one of the fastest out with a 4x6 print being done in 45-50 seconds.

Strengths:

Single color ink tanks. Excellent picture quality, even on non-Canon paper.

Weaknesses:

None seen yet
