Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $160.00 from Office Depot

Summary:

I picked this printer up mainly because of it's small size and portability. I had mobile use in mind. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality prints it put out with proper photo paper. I can do this in my car as well, printing processed photos from my laptop. It's supposed to be able to print direct from either of my Canon brand camera's but I prefer processing first.

Strengths:

Portability, and print quality. There is supposed to be a battery available for this unit, but I have not found one anywhere. I just use a small plug in the cigarette lighter power supply.

Weaknesses:

I haven't really found any flaws, especially when you consider its size nd cost. OK, Maybe a bit slow, but all in all it makes up for that with portability.

Similar Products Used:

We had 3 HP P1000's, 1 at each of our homes, & 1 at the office. This was a very good printer, but dated now.

Customer Service:

I have no experience with them, as I've never needed them.

Price Paid:  $399.00 from Staples Business dep

Model Reviewed:
Canon i70 printer

Summary:

An excellent portable printer with very good speed for text, graphic and Photo. The price by the way is $399 CDN. This is my first portable inkjet I purhase and I must say the result are mostly very good. The main purpose in buying this printer was the ability to printer direct from EOS 10D which it does easily and quickly, producing excellent photo up to letter size. One concern was that this was not list by Canon as a photo quality printer and rumour had it the photo were not as good as it could be and were a little soft. I decided to play it safe and purchase from Staples instead of my regular photo store. Reason in case I was not happy with the Photo produce by the i70 I could return with in 30 days and no restocking fee for a full refund. The other reason for concern was that at both Vistek, my regular camera store, and Staples they would not do any on site test printing of their own. The only test print was one done by Canon. I will not be returning the printer. It produce and excellent photo considering it only use a three color system plus a black. The Photo it produce is not as soft as rumour, the details is excellent but the color are not as vivid as photos printed by Epson 1280 my normal printer which is expect consider it a six color system. One final word of advise this printer work very well with Epson paper both Color life and Premuim Glossy. In my opinion the Canon paper sucks and that were the softness problem come in, just my opinion.

Strengths:

Speed, Excellet quality in both text and Graphic, very good quality in photo. The printer it self is small light weight and is truly portable. It is also a very sharp looking printer

Weaknesses:

This by no means is a perfect printer. The drive that come with for Mac especially OS X sucks. The one major complain is that the ink tank for this printer are very small. It use one black and one three color tank. The life on the tank seem so far to be fairly good for photo especially if you are only print lots of 5x7. My biggest problem is the monitoring of the tank. I have no idea how Canon knows when a tank running out cause each you install a new tank you have reset the printer to let it know that new tank has been put in. The first time I ran out of color, my computer told me the tank was still full. Unlike th Epson there is no chip on the tank it to tell me how ink I have left. The lack a good ink tank level monitor scare me a little. The ink tank price scare me too, color $35 CDN for a little tank, luckily there are two tanks in a box.
