from Fry's Electronics Summary: I've been a hardcore film user for years. After waiting for digital to catch up I am finding that it's quite plausible to have a digital lab. I use my scanner on my slides and use this i960 for my prints. THE PRINTS ARE AMAZING. I can't quite put these at lab quality but they are VERY close. If you hold any of these pictures at arms length you cannot tell the difference. The prints on glossy paper look even better (lately I've been using a lot of matte). It takes about 3-5 minutes for a letter sized print (this one will print 4x6, 5x7 and 8.5 x11). The letter sized prints are of great quality and cannot be discerned as a non-lab print unless the flaws are specifically sought for by looking at the print up close.
If you are a regular photographer and don't plan on selling prints this is THE best way to go. In all actuality you probably can sell the prints as they are excellent and the regular consumer would not be able to tell the difference. The colors are vibrant on standard mode, and you toggle "vidid" to saturate the colors a touch for punchy colors.
I cannot say how long the ink lasts as I've only printed about 20 photos so far, however this printer uses 6 individual ink tanks which can be replaced individually which reduces the cost of replacing ink (10 dollars a color I remember correctly). Generally the Cyan and Magenta go out first, but that's better than spending 50 dollars to replace the entire ink set. Strengths: Bundled Software
Ease of use
Print times are faster than competitors
Quiet Weaknesses: It will take some time to calibrate the colors to your liking, but this has more to do with your monitor settings than anything.
When printing dark colors, the print will ripple a little bit due to being slightly wet. However, the next day the ripple effect is gone and the print is perfectly flat. Similar Products Used: I haven't used any but I've been going through reviews like mad. Customer Service: Technical support is very fast and responsive.
