Review 1 of 1

Price Paid:  $339.00 from Officeworks

Summary:

Note cost was Australian $339 I recently purchased the ip5000 after undertaking reviews of all HP high end printers and comparing them to the canon 9950 (A3) printer (A work task). I decided to go for the 1 picolitre capabilty over the ip4000 2 picolitre as I had seen outputs from an I965 and the older S9000 and noticed very slight banding, so thought I would go as fine as I could. I was sufficiently impressed with the Canon 9950 I thought I'd see how the ip5000 would measure up. I am very pleased with the results on most paper types although by far the best is the Canon photo paper glossy PP-101 and PR-101. Another good reason to choose the Canon paper over alost all others is the resistance to damage. I tried damaging my prints as is relatively easy on normal photo paper but not so on the Canon. I even went so far as scratching the surface under running water and the only damage is to the surface texture. Based on that I am happy to never again go the a photo lab for prints. Plus the prints I have compared are better from the Canon than from the lab. For a home user not so concerned about the extra gamut the 8 colour printers give this is a great printer, to my eyes the reds look red and the greens are vibrant. The speed of printing a full A4 was excellent. The duplexing worked with no problems and the cd printing works effortlessly. I do use the dual paper paths as you do not have to switch papers in and out of the printer to ensure I don't get miss-feeds. I printed a sheet of thumbnails and was amazed at the detail in the print. I also have pro portrait images that have excellent colour range. I have tried the direct camera printing and it all worked fine as expexted with colours as recorded so no problems their either. It far exceeds my expectations and would recommend this printer to anyone.

Strengths:

Dual paper path storage saves misfeeds Image quality superb CD printing a breeze.

Weaknesses:

Can't think of any for the price.
