Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $149.00 from Amazon.com

Summary:

Apart from the speed and plain paper sharpness, this printer has too much going AGAINST it. Colors are dull on glossy paper, smudge-free inks are NOT smudge-free. And here's the Biggie, this printer clogged all heads after about one year, even during regular usage with EPSON OEM inks. This is my third and LAST Epson printer. All died with CLOGGED Printheads; previously I had a 850 and C80. I think this is Epson's way to get you to trade-up, but I am switching brands this time around.

Strengths:

Speed. sharpness

Weaknesses:

Squeaking sound developed during warm-up Easily clogged heads All ink cartridges needed to print any one color Inks not totally smudgefree, especially on glossy paper

C80

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $89.00 from staples

Summary:

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!! I am junking it. Not only is it incredibly noisy, but saturation is very uneven and the nozels become clogged often so you must clean it several times, read that as five, prior to using it for color each time. Another consideration: I've read that there is a microchip embedded in it that alerts you to low ink levels before they are low so that you are replacing them more often than needed -- thanks to Epson's need to increase their profits.

Strengths:

I cannot think of one.

Weaknesses:

See review summary. Try Canon. BUYER BEWARE.

I've had two epson printers prior to this. Don't know why i bought this one because the others failed after a year!

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $80.00 from Fry's

Summary:

Don't buy it. The product exhibited uneven saturation even after several alignment cycles. The product description is mis-leading - the black cartridge is NOT used in photo printing mode, and the CMY colors are used in "saturation mode" to achieve "black". The black isn't very black as a result. Oh and did I mention the black isn't Dura-Brite? Well who cares since you cant use the black in photo mode. One of the print modes is digital enhanced (or something like that) which is recommended to provide edge enhancement and better color saturation for shots taken with digital cameras. This mode results in massively uneven saturation banding across the print width. All-in-all a horrible experience. I threw this brand-new printer away after several attempts to print the simplest of phots. Total junk.

Strengths:

Dura-Brite ink in any color except black.

Weaknesses:

Saturation banding problems, black not used in photo prints.

Similar Products Used:

Earlier Stylus products (which were better btw).

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $129.00 from Best Buy

Model Reviewed:
c82

Summary:

Amazing printer. You can get great, fast 4x6 prints, and even for high quality it isn't too slow. Text and regular printing looks good as well. It has higher resolution than the competitive Canon i850 ($150) and the HP 7350 ($159), and has the economic, convenient 4 cartridge ink system. (Carts run a reasonable $11) The canon uses 4 and the HP uses 2. I went to the store to buy the Canon, based on the excellent reviews on here, but the price and print quality won me over. I am not disappointed. One more thing. With an optional network adapter, the printer is networkable, without a computer. I don't need it, but thats d*** cool. Software is useless for me, as I am a photoshop user, but the driver is fantastic, down to the detailed reports on ink remaining.

Strengths:

Price Quality Speed Multi-purpose skill. Drivers Networking Quiet Looks (That's basically all you could ask for, right?)

Weaknesses:

I'm trying hard to think of one. I can't

Canon i850
