I am so upset with this printer. It tells me that it is out of ink, and then, when I use one of those "as seen on TV" products, it will not refill! Actually it will, but because the cartrage uses a computer chip that tells the printer when it is out, it will not print
Strengths:
If you are willing to spend 30.00 on a new cartrage, the thing works
Weaknesses:
It doesn't work, and then there is no one that I can call for info!!
Best photoprinter ever had.
I resample each photo in PhotoShop to 240 dpi before printing in EPSON menu 1140 dpi. No visible blocks, even
not with a picture from a 2 Mpixel camera, printed on A3 !
Very good USB performance. Keep in mind:
HAVE 1 G.byte free on your harddisk C: in order to
have enough temp print file!!
I'm waiting for a 6 Mpixel camera I can afford, for even sharper results, printed on A3 format.
Strengths:
Ptint quality.
Refills possible (Compedo).
Weaknesses:
Unrealistic high ink-price !
I use the BIG INK SYSTEM of Compedo (www.compedo.de)with
great success! Savings: 66% !!

Summary:
i love the printer for the images it produces, but pray nothing goes wrong. something went wacky with mine, the ink carts started slamming against the right side of the chasis after making a noise like a frightened critter, scrreeeeech. ok whatever mechanical things break. so i call down to l a to get a replacement, easy enough , a reconditioned printer is on it's way. i was reassured it was most likely a unit with a cracked lid that needed replacing or something similar. the unit i got was filthy. the rollers were so dirty 4 roller tracks were printed along with my image. this was not fresh ink, this is caked on goo. i kept my machine obsessive compulisve clean and expect a similar unit to replace it. reconditioned my ass, i got sent some other shmucks nightmare. i needed to keep my unit (which worked as long as i never shut it off) to finish a job. the 5 calls trying to explain that were responded with "that's not normal procedure, you can't do that, give us yours and we'll send you another" no way am i giving mine, a unit that can work in a limited fashion to one i can't use at all. the 6th call landed a human with a brain, she arranged for me to send back the 2nd unit and keep mine until a working (tested by me) unit arrived. that finally happened. i am pissed off at having to waste a half a day for something that should not have occured in the first place. i received responses from tech support flatley refusing to beleive they would send out a unit like i got. and where the hell is an 800 number if you plan on leaving a client on hold longer than 5 min.. other than that, nice printer beats the pants off canon or hp. have a lovely day.
I am very pleased with my purchase of this printer. I originally bought this printer becuause I wanted somehting that would allow me to print full bleed 8.5 x 11 proofs for clients. After owning this printer for a little more than a year, I have used it for more jobs than I can remember. I am very pleased with the image quality I receive when printing photo reprints as well as other design projects. This printer is a great value, for the quality your receive, and now that a newer model has been released, you can probably find this one for even cheaper.
Strengths:
Great print quality, decent print speeds for both color and B&W, seperate color and B&W cartridges.
Weaknesses:
"Combined" color cartridge, cartridges are a little bit pricey.

Model Reviewed: Epson Stylus Photo 1200
Summary:
Originally I wanted for quality foto reproduction and did get it. My big concern was a review about ink problems causing clogs when printing. Never the less I bought the Photo 1200. Later, I had to use the Photo 1200 as a business printer to check writing and day to day work. It is cheaper to use the laser printer but I get a classier looking check, I have more definition for business use than previuosly and still get some pretty vivid colors for my personal photo's. Yes, I use a lot of ink for business purposes and yes it is slow. But the printer is doing more than I expected or even planned and I am getting more use than anticipated. The more I use Epson, printer and digital camera, the more I regret not trying thier products sooner. A 70 year old business man.
Strengths:
Does everything that Epson claimed and more. For quality printing on business checks (payroll and vendors) there are things that a person can do that can't be rated in dollars and cents.
Weaknesses:
Speed if you intend to use it for business purposes.
