Review 1 of 74

Price Paid:  $500.00

Summary:
This was a great printer for about 18 months. (Read: just out of warranty.) The black print head quit working and an independent repair shop and Epson both told me that it would be cheaper to replace the printer than to repair it. I would have expected Epsons to stand behind their (then) top of the line consumer photo printer and I would not recommend this printer for that reason.

Strengths:
Good quality prints when it was working. I have many of them displayed around the house and at work and have not noticed any fading in three years.

Weaknesses:
Not dependable. Frequently had driver issues and it quit working after only 18 months.

Similar Products Used:

Customer Service:
Not helpful.

Review 2 of 74

Price Paid:  $499.00 from buy.com

Model Reviewed:
Epson 1270

Summary:
It was a good printer when I first got it when it first came out..

Strengths:
It WAS a good printer

Weaknesses:
Now it gives me no reliability, I'm not about to take it in to some "Epson Certified" someone or another who's going to charge me an arm and a leg. Its just not worth it. From reading the reviews here I don't want to take it in, and then have to take it back some 5 months later. I'm a student and laying down some $100 to deal with this isn't worth it.

I know someone with a Epson 1280 who's getting similar problems who bought theirs some 3 months ago...*sgh*

Review 3 of 74

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Excellent overall, except for nasty fading of cyan on Premium Glossy Photo Paper when exposed to air. Even the edges of prints in cheap acrylic frames start to fade after a couple of weeks, from the ingress of air at the edges. Matte prints, and glossy prints fully protected from air, are gorgeous and fade-resistant.

Strengths:
Beautiful, sharp prints.

Weaknesses:
Rapid fading of cyan on Premium Glossy Photo Paper when exposed to air. Faint horizontal bands if I haven't used the printer for a while - fixed with head cleaning or new cartridges

Review 4 of 74

Price Paid:  $399.00 from B&H

Model Reviewed:
Epson 1270

Summary:
What a beautiful printer---WHEN it's working well. I need to take it in for professional servicing frequently because it will start depositing black ink across the print, rendering it useless until it comes back from the shop again. This isn't a cleaning I can do at home, nor one the tech bench can do at the store, but has to be sent off, meaning 2-4 weeks of having it gone. SO, I just can't depend on it, and am going to have to buy a Canon or another brand.

Strengths:
WHEN it's working well, it does produce beautiful color prints. I love the Premium Luster Photo Paper.

Weaknesses:
Works well for a brief time before needing professional servicing again to eliminate the extraneous black ink lines, smears, blobs, etc. Also, even on a 'clean' print, you can see the lines produced by the tracter wheels, a row of little indentations. This shows up particularly on large sections of a solid color. I would have appreciated refillable Epson ink being made available, as I go through cartridges quickly and they're expensive.

Review 5 of 74

Price Paid:  $400.00 from online

Model Reviewed:
Epson Photo 1280

Summary:
This is my second an last Epson printer. Both the 900 and 1280 Color Stylus printers have faithfully reproduced severe roller marks within 1 year. After about 15 (some lightly wetted)Q-Tips, I managed to get an acceptable copy. When the ink recharges, it will happen again. SEARCH for: epson printer +"roller marks" Enuff said!

Strengths:
Great Print Quality When New

Weaknesses:
Severe roller marks within 1 year--2 different models. The ink is expensive.

Epson Stylus Color 900
