from www.epson.com (refur Summary: This is more of a shutterbug's review of this printer. I'd say 95% of the printouts I do are photos. Haven't used the CD printing yet, but it looks cool.
Bought this printer (refurb) on 5/2005 for $77 (shipping included) off of Epson's site. Couldn't be happier. It's like having a Color and B&W darkroom, but a lot faster and easier. For those of you who have tried developing your own color negatives and prints (shudder!), you'll know what I mean.
It does drink ink (what photo printer doesn't). I've hooked up this baby with a Continuous Ink System (CIS), and I'm off and running. CIS cost me $100 and it came pre-filled with 100ml of dye ink. This lasted me 7 months with heavy printing. Just ordered a dye ink refill kit (6 bottles, 100ml each) for $34. Just keep refilling the CIS and enjoy the printouts! I'm guessing that this setup costs me about $0.35 per sheet (paper and ink).
Love it!!! Strengths: 1) Cheap! 2)*Can't be beat from a $$$/Performance standpoint!!! 3) *Excellent Color and B&W: Prints gorgeous 8x10s (I've had my best results using Ilford Gallrie Smooth Pearl paper. $25 for 100 8.5x11 sheets at Sam's Club) Weaknesses: 1) Kinda on the slow side. But good things take time. ;) 2) Will not print when one cartridge goes empty. This cuts both ways. This feature prevents you from wasting paper, but also prevents you from using the "use black ink only" when one of the colors goes empty.
