Price Paid:  $64.00 from ebay

Summary:

Is this a great printer or what. I use photo printers at work to produce our Daily news letter, Magazines, Graphic Office slides for Presentations and Budget forecasting sheets. We use the Epson 785, 825, 925, Hp 7550 and Canon 9000 some of these units are stand alone which means that a computer and person is not tied up printing these needed items, that are ad-hoc. All these printers do outstanding job printing near if not Photo lab output with the right glossy media. Of this group or printers when I considered price and quailty of output the Epson 785 was the one that stood out and I bought. Through e-bay it was such a great deal, I couldn't pass it up. The design of the Canon and it intelligent ink method, is a nice feature, the HP soild text and Photo performance is great. But the best printer for the money if you want to print photos is the Epson 785. Its output is outstanding and I can tell a bit of difference in the 5760 compared to the 2800 dpi max output.

Strengths:

Photo Lab quailty output for under $150 dollars, with media reader features built in and I bought the monitor option. The most bang for the buck. I'm impressed at work since the office purchase until now, I have one at home. Its like we are old friends.

Weaknesses:

Lack of Speed and intelligent ink capacity like canon. And veryly sharp text output on regular paper like the HP. On photo paper the Epson text output is as good as a laser printer. The Epson 785 is not as fast as the Canon 9000 or the HP 7550. They will produce a 4x6 photo in 46 to 52 seconds. The 785 does the same photo in 54 seconds. They all can brag that it done under a minute. The cleaining cycle should be done once every three weeks if the printers just setting. But if you are busy take pitures and printing them like me. This is not a factor.

Similar Products Used:

Hp 7150, 7550, 900s, Epson 2100, 1280, 935, 925, 825, 780, Canon 530d, i470D, i850, i830D, 900, 9000.

Customer Service:

We talk at work a lot they are quite informative. Epson has martket to big business for years so it would reason why their networking is built in their software package.

Review 2 of 5

Price Paid:  $199.00 from Office Max

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX

Summary:

I've read the other two reviews and can't agree. The nozzles are constantly clogging, despite turning off between uses. It is extremely noisy and extremely slow. Due to the constant clogging of nozzles, the print quality suffers. I'd never buy another one and am looking into replacing this. Epson makes it very hard to contact them via email. In fact, you can't do it anywhere on their site.

Strengths:

Can't think of any.

Weaknesses:

Nozzle clogging. Slow printing. Noisy.

Review 3 of 5

Price Paid:  $200.00 from CompUSA

Model Reviewed:
Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX

Summary:

Outstanding printer, especially at its price. Photos rival similar traditional 35mm film photos I''ve taken of similar subjects. The printer software is a nice plus too, especially used in conjunction with Photoshop. Tweak them in Photoshop, move them to the Epson site, and printing is a breeze.

Strengths:

Amazing results, esp. at 2880 dpi setting. Great when used with Epsons own Premium Glossy Film or Premium Glossy Paper, but especially good with Olympus'' Pictorico Photo Glossy Film or new Gallery Glossy Paper. Not a half bad text/plain paper printer either.

Weaknesses:

Quite slow printing at the 2880 level, but worth the wait. Eats the color cartridge at about 5x the black, but the six different colors seem to go at about the same time, so at least there''s not much waste in having to change a cartridge with a lot of one color left.

Similar Products Used:

HP Photosmart 1000. The Epson at the same price blows it away.

Price Paid:  $199.00 from CompUSA

Model Reviewed:
785EPX

Summary:

I cannot get this printer calibrated! It does not disply pure red very well at all and although it has a huge number of s/w settingsand control, I''ve gone thorugh 50 sheets of h/w matte paper and 3 color cartridges and still don''t have it to an acceptable level. As a result, reds are orangy, magentas are off, so any skin tones look terrible. I''m using various color charts off of good sites on teh web (this site should have one). Besides that, it goes through ink like crazy and is VERY loud compared to the HP''s. I''d be OK with those shortcomings if I can get the color right, just to get the archival prints. Also, reading the pictures off of a CF card directly into the printer from a Canon G1 produces the same result. I realize that the G1 doesn''t support PIM, but there are no G1 configurations on Epson''s web site to help either. I only would recommend this printer to someone who had an Epson camera with PIM.

Strengths:

Archival Ink

Weaknesses:

Color calibration, lack of support for non-PIM cameras, VERY loud

Similar Products Used:

HP932C

Price Paid:  $236.00 from Amazon.com

Model Reviewed:
Epson 785EPX

Summary:

I''ve had an Epson 3000Z digicam for about 10 months, and this is the first photo printer I''ve purchased. I''ve used and been impressed by an HP 1215, but I was interested in staying with Epson due to the good experiences I have had with both the camera and previous printer models (Stylus Color 800). The printer, which I''ve had less than a week but put through the wringer already, stands up well. I''m impressed with the speed (although I hear others are faster), the software driver, and the power of the printer used with only the built-in card reader. Another benefit is the ability to use the built-in reader as a permanent drive so that I no longer have to use the camera to download photos to the PC. With the USB connection, transfer times are remarkably quick. I''m also impressed with the documentation and the quick-start manual. I''m not the type to usually read user manuals, but in this case I read it cover-to-cover. And it''s worth it. Paired with the Epson Glossy Photo Paper, the prints are remarkably better than any I have received from a 35-mm print from a photo lab in quite a while. The colors are amazing. I have ordered a preview monitor, but it is on back order and I have not used it yet. I have rated the printer 5 stars across the board, and I''m not fudging. I NEVER rate products at the highest level, but I have been truly impressed with this printer. If you''re looking for a photo printer, this one should be on your short list. Try it, you''ll love it.

Strengths:

*Detail in shadows even on 720 dpi setting *Remarkable number of options for paper and driver settings *Speed (although I hear others are faster) *Built-in card reader works well *Printer''s ability to print without a PC (and the remarkable output)

Weaknesses:

*USB-only connection *Price of consumables (Epson ink and Epson paper) *Somewhat flimsy design *A little noisy *Text on plain paper is a little fuzzy

Similar Products Used:

HP 1215 - nice, but obviously an inkjet printer in terms of output. You absolutely cannot see any dots of ink from the Epson unlike the HP.
