Review 2 of 6

Price Paid:  $0.00

Model Reviewed:
Photosmart 1000

Summary:

The drivers provided with this product are what I consider to be "crapware". It appears to be extremely severe memory leaks. Generally, I can print no more than two pages of photos without it locking up, requiring a reboot before I can do any more. Sometimes it forces a power-down, with the resulting extra wait. Downloaded an update today (29 Oct 2002), which didn't load properly because it can't handle the restructuring of the directories. After I go by that, with about 8 reboots because it runs DOS batch files sequentially, it still works no better than before. Tried to print a greeting card for my daughter. Did it first on plain paper. When I switched to matte paper, it would die every time.

Strengths:

Beautiful prints.

Weaknesses:

VERY FRUSTRATING, with all the rebooting required.

Review 3 of 6

Price Paid:  $199.00 from Target

Model Reviewed:
P1000

Summary:

Right now this printer is on clearance everywhere for $199. It is a fantastic photo printer. With the ability to print on almost any type of paper, it offers tremendous versatility. When you select photopaper, you can print in 2400dpi or HP''s photoret mode. Either produces stunning prints. I found a photo I printed 4 months ago, and I could not remember (or tell) if I printed it or had it developed. Aside from exceptional print quality, you have built in smartmedia or compactflash readers. I do not use the USB connection any more to download photos from my digital camera. I simply slide the card out of my camera and into the printer and save it straight over to my hard drive. Very nice and easy to use. I spent $300 3 years ago for a HP 722 printer. It''s amazing to think that for a $100 less I got a printer with much higher quality settings and two types of digital memory card readers. I do not believe anything out there compares right now.

Strengths:

Stunning prints and built-in memory card readers

Weaknesses:

Drivers can be a little fickle

Similar Products Used:

Epson, Hp
