from Best Buy Model Reviewed: hp photosmart 1215 Summary: I love this printer. It produces terrific photos in the "normal" mode. All that I've had to do is change the settings to a slightly lighter ink volume (under properties/advanced) to get near perfect results with all paper types. Strengths: Terrific Photos in Normal Mode. No need to change settings for each paper type, since it's got an automatic sensor... Ditto for the "alignment problems" that seem to be common to other printers. I also like the ink cartridges (which change the print heads every time the cartridges are changed). This is very nice, since my last printer was an Epson 780 (same "engine" as the 870, 1270, and many other Epson "photo" printers). The Epson had constant alignment problems, jammed a lot, and suffered from frequently clogged print heads. The HP doesn't suffer from these issues, and I don't miss the Epson's higher resolution prints (in my opinion, the HP's 8x10" prints look just as good, without the numerous problems I experienced with the Epson. The HP also has much better looking print in "Draft" mode compared to the Epson. Weaknesses: I like the cartridge design, but they are a bit expensive (since they include new print heads with each replacement), but the better overall quality is worth it to me.
I do miss the Epson's "borderless" 8x10 feature, but not enough to put up with the Epson's problems.
For some reason, the highest quality mode on the HP doesn't seem to be as good as the Normal mode for my photos -- but this may just be that the settings need "tweaking" (ink volume, etc.) for the paper that I'm using. I have a tendency to use lower priced "generic brand" papers, leaving the HP in "autosense" mode, letting the infrared sensor determine the paper type. Similar Products Used: Epson 780
