Review 1 of 10

Price Paid:  $99.00 from amazon.com

Summary:

I bought this tripod a few years ago, 2004. I have used it with a Canon elan 7 film SLR and also with a Rebel XTi. I find it to be very stable and reliable. It has no levels and no quick release legs, but the build quality is very good and the legs stable. I think this tripod is great for a medium weight set such as the Rebel XTi with most any lens. A shorter center column can be purchased to allow the Tripod to get down to very low heights. The quick release plate setup works well and is also stable. The tripod comes with a carrying bag and for less than 100.00 this is an excellent deal.

Strengths:

Good build, reliable, low price, not too heavy, good height both low and high.

Weaknesses:

No quick release levers, no bubble levels.

Customer Service:

none needed

Review 2 of 10

Price Paid:  $114.00 from Ritz Camera

Summary:

Sane quick release plate: smaller than Bogen hex but larger than Bogen rectangular for 35mm. Gets low, very solid for its size, long and solid connection to centerpost. Good heavy rubber feet. Best in class, IMHO. I use it more than the Bogens I have. Light enough to carry on a fairly long hike.

Strengths:

Taller/Wider than old Bogen 3001 Optional short center column Will not pinch, bite, or bang you

Weaknesses:

No spiked feet 1/4"-20 interface between head and center column

Review 3 of 10

Price Paid:  $100.00 from B.C. Canada

Summary:

Good tripod for the price. Overall good beginner's tripod.

Strengths:

For the price, this tripod serves the perpose. it's heavy duty and stable even in the windy condition. Great for begginer and casual users. For intermediate and pro users you may want spend more $ for a better one.

Weaknesses:

Not an ideal tripod to carry around on trips the pan-head that comes with the tripod is not user friendly. Therefore, I replaced it with a Gitzo Ball head

Review 4 of 10

Price Paid:  $75.00

Summary:

a great first tripod for all you turks out there, trash those feather weight tripods with the plastic heads and fiddy controls, get this metal monster slik. what to do with you crappy tripod that comes ''free'' with you brand-new-fresh-out-of-the-box-shrinked-wrapped camera kit? 1) give it to a friend. 2) use it as a light stand for small flash units on a photoslave. and please, ignore all the other lower grade slik products like the U series, these are the feather light tripods i am talking about. stick with their better tripods which are really bargains considering their construction.

Strengths:

1)price: again from a students standpoint. 2)variable leg splay is really versatile: you can prop this thing with one leg on the floorboard, one on the coffee table and one off the bookshelf, in short, good for cramped rooms. 3)reasonably light weight but definitely not feather light. 4) good construction: i dropped mine many times down the stairs and it survived with a lot of scars though, heck i even sit on it(on the center column assembly or body) when i am waiting for my bus- just don''t seat on the legs or on a tripod fully extended. 5) gorgeous black, love it. 6) goes low and you can invert to center post to go even lower.(off the floor literally) 7) invert center post for copy work. 8) all this for less than a hundred bucks? believe me, brother this is as good as it gets.

Weaknesses:

1)I have to repeat what all the other posters said: those darn screw locks that really slows things down, definitely not the tripod to set up in a hurry for pin sharp UFO landings at night pictures. 2)also, the rubber feet slides a bit on grass of slippery pavements, even marble floors. and no provision for spike feet. 3)the lack of a center brace(which makes the variable leg splay possible) actually makes this tripod less stable: the legs will spread when weight is apply downwards. 5) this is a big problem: the chrome sections of the tilt and pan handles rusts.

Similar Products Used:

expensive stuff from school, bogens, manfrotos: i don''t remember the specific models but i still like my black slik. oh! they have a mini version of this model in black, wonder if you seen it, rea

Customer Service:

i thought tocad website is pretty straight forward and imformative without a lot of ad-talk.

Review 5 of 10

Summary:

If you're looking for a good tripod at a decent price, this is a good bet for you...novice, amatuer, or pro. If you want a super high quality tripod, try spending a lot more money on something else.

Strengths:

Very sturdy tripod, all "connections" where legs pivot are sturdy. Moving parts lock down very well. Has the ability to turn the center post over and shoot "upside down".

Weaknesses:

Could me a bit taller and the screw-in locks for the legs are a little more time consuming than I thought it would be. Also, if you want to turn the center post upside down, that's a bit time consuming as well.

Similar Products Used:

Couple of aluminum Velbon tripods.

Customer Service:

Haven't had to use, and don't plan on needing too. This is a very sturdy tripod.
