About dana m.
Why am I here? Just take a look at the column on the left where there is a list of my camera equipment. You see one inexpensive point and shoot camera, while everyone else has an extensive array of cameras, lenses, software and other equipment. That is the reason I'm here...to make the novice feel right at home and comfortable with themselves.
I came to photography late in life, only about 6 years ago when I got my first digital camera (the aforementioned camera on the left). I've had cameras before, but the hassle and cost of developing really didn't suit me. I went slightly crazy with the digital ease and cost and have been in love since. I was introduced to this site by my best friend, who still hangs out around here. Everyone here has been so helpful and friendly to me. All you have to do is ask and they will bend over backwards to help. I've made some great friends here and am sure I will continue to make more.
I was raised a military brat and then joined the military myself. We spent most of our time stationed in California and Japan. I have lived in north Texas for the last 40 years. I'm married and am a mother and grandmother. I've been involved in the art world for many years and have volunteered at a north Texas art museum for the last 16 years. I've worked in public libraries since 1986 at two different library systems. It is what I enjoy doing and can't see myself working anywhere else.
I've been a member of Photography Review since 2006. I'm probably the least technical person here. I refuse to use any setting other than "automatic." I have no patience with all the other dials and settings and no desire to learn (sad huh?). I enjoy the macro setting best of all and think I get pretty good results with it. I would love a new camera and have been trying to decide on one but can't seem to make up my mind. Wow! Then I would have a list of two cameras over there on the left. My only strong point is a "good eye" mostly due to my art background. I was very flattered to be invited to join the site as a moderator. Much thanks to John, Larry and Pam for having confidence in me.
